Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston became 'good friends' after he apologized for leaving her for Angelina Jolie
Brad Pitt once became the most hated actor for breaking the hearts of millions of fans when he decided to divorce Jennifer Aniston in order to date Angelina Jolie. Two failed marriages and six kids later, the 'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood' actor, has now become good friends with his first wife, but the friendship was only possible after Pitt reached out to Aniston in 2017 to apologized for his deplorable behavior during their marriage.
“He’s been determined to apologize for everything he put her through, and that’s exactly what he did,” a source told Mirror at the time. “It was the most intimate conversation Brad and Jen have ever had.”
Although the apology seems to put all the bitterness between the former couple to rest, it did initially bring back a lot of the hurt that the 'Friends' actress experienced immediately after her first marriage was dissolved.
“Jen was overcome with emotion. All the hurt feelings and resentment she’d suppressed for years came flooding to the surface, and she broke down in tears," the source said.
Back in 2005 - the year her divorce from Pitt got finalized - news broke of Jolie's then-rumored pregnancy with her’s and Pitt's firstborn, Shiloh. When Aniston was asked about the news during a Vanity Fair interview at the time, she was unable to answer the question and broke down in tears instead.
“I have to think there’s some reason I have called this into my life,” she said of the end of their marriage. “I have to believe that—otherwise it’s just cruel.”
Pitt also reportedly apologized for being a bad husband which played a part in their relationship ending in divorce. “He apologized to Jen for being an absentee husband, for being stoned and bored much of the time. He also made amends for leaving her (for) Angelina,” the source added.
Although Aniston is said to have forgiven Pitt, she "still resents" Jolie.
Pitt and Aniston recently had a reunion of sorts at the Golden Globes 2020 on Sunday. When the actor was asked on the red carpet about the fact that shutterbugs were waiting for him to run into Aniston, he casually answered, "I’d run into Jen. She’s a good friend."
The former pair were also seated just a few seats away from each other at the main event - a pre-discussed arrangement that none of their reps had a problem with.
Jolie didn't attend the ceremony.
