Spoilers for ‘Blue Bloods’ Season 11 Episode 1 ‘Triumph Over Trauma’

Episode 1 of CBS’ police procedural drama, ‘Blue Bloods’ Season 11, which follows the fictional Reagan family, an Irish Catholic family in New York City with a history of work in law enforcement, saw a rather thrilling subplot.

Detective Daniel ‘Danny’ Fitzgerald Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Detective Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) briefly found themselves captured and restrained while searching for a killer. Looking for leads on the case of Madelaine Gleeson, they had reached a house. The door was answered by an elderly woman who allowed them inside to take a look. She tells them that her son wasn’t home and that he didn’t show up last night, adding that he had been strange lately.

When Danny and Baez go into the basement to check up on what the son may have been up to, they stumble upon pictures of Madelaine in a drawer. Baez is suddenly pushed downstairs. She rolls down the stairs, hurting her head. As Danny jumps to see if Baez was okay, someone locks them inside. Danny rushes up with his gun and bangs on the door but it is locked. After some time, the door creaks open and they find a note that reads: “You’re next.”

In the meanwhile, Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and his nephew Joe Hill (Will Hochman) find Danny’s car.

At the end of Season 10, Joe was introduced. He is Joe Reagan's son with Paula Hill, a classmate at the Police Academy who dropped out after learning she was pregnant, without ever letting Joe know about the baby. The Reagan family did not learn of his existence until Sean, in a school project on family ancestry, took a DNA test that revealed a hit on a male first cousin.

Jamie and Joe go back to the house where the woman’s son answered the door. They find nothing suspicious then and subsequently leave. But when Jamie makes a connection later, they return. While peeping through a window, he spots a leg and shouts if she is okay. Jamie hears a noise and realizes it is Danny banging on the pipes in the basement. They break the window and go inside. Jamie finds the old woman dead in a chair. He reaches out to the door of the basement and rescues Danny and Maria.

This leaves many questions about what is to come. Why did the killer send a trapped Danny and Baez that note? Did he have some connection with them? For one, if he had them trapped there, he could have easily just killed them there. But he did not.

Something here does not definitely add up. Is it possible that the man involved in the Madelaine Gleeson case is not the same man who trapped them there and killed the elderly woman? In that case, one has to wonder why they sent this note to either Danny or Baez and it is perhaps equally important to ask who the note was really meant for.

If this is indeed not connected to Madelaine Gleeson's case, then chances are that we might not get the answers in the next episode. But one can always hope.

New episodes of ‘Blue Bloods’ Season 11 airs Fridays at 10 pm ET on CBS Network.
