Blake Walsh: Kaylin Gillis' BF claims they thought it was right location on the night of shooting
HEBRON, NEW YORK: The boyfriend of Kaylin Gillis, who was fatally shot on Saturday, April 15, after the couple and two other friends accidentally pulled into the wrong driveway in rural Hebron, NY, is remembering her tragic final moments. Blake Walsh, 19, of Cambridge, New York, admitted that his "world was taken from" him on the night when 65-year-old Kevin Monahan allegedly fired two shots from his front porch, one of which landed the car his 20-year-old girlfriend was in.
"We thought we were at the right address," Walsh told NBC News. "We didn't have any cell service to figure it out. As soon as we figured it out that we were at the wrong location, we started to leave, and that's when everything happened." The next moments occurred in a blur for the 19-year-old who was driving a Ford Explorer on the night. "My friend said, 'They're shooting — go!' I tried to step on the gas as fast as I could, and that's when the fatal shot came through," Walsh said. "I want to believe it was instant. I’m hoping it was. I’m praying it was," he said through tears, of the moment Gillis was shot.

Walsh drove five miles to contact 911
Recalling the tragic incident, Walsh said it "felt like 30 seconds. The adrenaline was rushing so bad." The group then drove for five miles to call 911 due to the lack of cell service. However, Gillis, who was struck in the neck, was pronounced dead several miles away after the phone call.
'I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her'
Walsh said that he had "high hopes" of being with Gillis for the rest of his life and is now grieving the loss. "I didn’t want to be with anybody else, and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I want the world to know how good of a person she really was and how much she impacted everybody who had the fortunate opportunity to be in her life," he told NBC News.
Monahan has pleaded not guilty
Monahan, charged with second-degree murder in connection with Gillis’ death, pleaded not guilty on Sunday, April 16. His attorney Kurt Mausert stated that his client did not intend to hurt anyone. "When you have a victim and a tragedy, the thing everyone wants is a villain, but not every time there's a victim and tragedy is there a villain," Mausert said, reported ABC News. "A number of errors were made that were unintentional." Monahan, who is being held in the Warren County jail at the moment, is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Wednesday, April 19. Gillis' boyfriend Walsh will also be attending the hearing. "I need to see who took my girlfriend away from me. I need to look at him," he said.
