What better way to educate masses about one of the biggest historical revolutions than showcasing it through a show which has always stood for the rights of the black community?

Tonight, (June 2), ABC’s sitcom series ‘Black-ish’ used its platform to pay tribute to the 46-year-old black man Geroge Floyd who lost his life to police brutality. The network show did an 8 minutes and 46 seconds countdown tribute at the end of their latest episode. The time displayed on the screen was the exact time the killer cop Derek Chauvin took to choke Floyd to death by kneeling on his neck until he couldn’t breathe.

Apart from the countdown tribute, ‘Black-ish’ also aired two of its episodes titled ‘Hope’ and ‘Juneteeth’, which showcase the oppression the black community has endured for years.  Creator of the show, Kenya Barris also shared a post talking about the re-airing of the two episodes, in which he stated, “I’m grateful to ABC for choosing to re-air “Hope” and “Juneteeth” tonight, but this is more than one night of television. This is about coming together as a country and as humankind to say enough is enough.”

“Black rights are human rights, and this continued injustice impacts all of us. So while we hope these episodes can bring your families together in watching and learning, the real hope is that it inspires you to join us in demanding liberty and justice for all- Once and for all.”, it further stated.

On watching the Black-ish’s latest episodes, fans have taken to Twitter to thank the showrunners and network for airing them as it couldn’t have been more timely. One fan wrote, “#blackish this episode Hope is one of the reasons I dare say this is better than the Cosby Show. They hit racism and our fears head on.”

“I am so glad that FXX is playing the “Hope” episode of #Blackish. This episode needs to be rebroadcasted after EVERY one of these race-driven events,” added another.  A third added, “I’m sitting here watching #blackish  - soo happy they made these episodes. So terribly disgusted and sad that they ever had to! Or that #georgeFloyd was murdered by 4 officers. My only hope is that these men are all punished in court and once and for all . . . there is CHANGE!”
