'Black Adam': Who is Aldis Hodge's Hawkman?
'City on a Hill' star Aldis Hodge trades those suave-looking threads for armor and wings in 'Black Adam', and the North Carolina man will be one of the new heroes introduced in the much-awaited Dwayne Johnson flick. Hodge plays Carter Hall — an archaeologist who is the reincarnation of an Egyptian prince and has the power of flight from his Nth metal wings. He is the leader of the Justice Society of America. The character has two separate origins in the comic book – the first is the Golden Age origin and the other is the Post-Hawkworld origin.
The movie will also deal with Hawkman's origin, which might be slightly different from the comics. Director Jaume Collet-Serra confirmed as much. Per a Game Rant report, he said the move was made to keep it simple. "In the comics, there are clear references of like, 'Hey, I saw you 5,000 years ago. You remember me?' We’re not doing that...It would be too confusing." But he did add that he didn't want to change too much, "Obviously, Hawkman reincarnates, so how many times do you need to reincarnate and still remember? All these rules [are something] you don’t want to set until those characters are really established."

Who is Hawkman?
The character was introduced in Flash Comics #1 by Gardner Fox and Dennis Neville as a research scientist. Carter Hall touches a mystic Egyptian dagger made of Nth metal (a foreign metal that can negate gravity) and is taken back to the memories of his past life where he was once rince Khufu of ancient Egypt. The latter was killed by an Egyptian priest, but the prince vowed revenge. Hall wakes up in present-day New York and still carries Khufu's memories.
Per Fandom, he's described as, "Originally Prince Khufu of ancient Egypt, the hero who would become known as Hawkman discovered an alien spacecraft from the planet Thanagar, powered by a mysterious anti-gravity element called Nth Metal. The unearthly energies of the metal transformed his soul, and he and his love Princess Chay-Ara were reincarnated over and over for centuries. Currently, he is Carter Hall, archaeologist, and adventurer."
Hodge will be playing the superhero in 'Black Adam' and the official synopsis of the movie reads, "From New Line Cinema, Dwayne Johnson stars in the action-adventure 'Black Adam'. The first-ever feature film to explore the story of the DC Super Hero comes to the big screen under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra ('Jungle Cruise'). Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world."
'Black Adam' releases on October 21, 2022, in the United States.
