How are Bidens keeping their romance alive? Jill says she and Joe have dinner date nights where 'phones are off'

'We try to keep the Sunday night dinners. It's been a little busy lately. We still do it and the kids look forward to it, and I think traditions really ground kids,' said the FLOTUS

Although President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden have a lot on their plates after becoming the new occupants of the White House amid a raging pandemic and rising unemployment in the United States, they do make time for each other to keep their romance alive.

The POTUS has time and again introduced himself to the public as "Jill's husband" and has never shied away from engaging in some PDA with his wife, even after becoming the commander-in-chief. But with such a busy schedule, how does the 78-year-old president make time for his 69-year-old spouse? Jill recently revealed during a guest appearance on 'The Kelly Clarkson Show' that the first couple makes sure to have date-night dinners where the phones stay off.

Jill Biden keeps 'mirror notes' to get 'real messages' across to Joe Biden and inspire him to keep his faith

What will Jill Biden's 'first lady' platform be? She's not concerned about having a catchy phrase, says report

"He's so busy, I'm so busy, but we do keep dinner," said Jill during the interview. "And we have dinner together, no phones, the phones have to be off… We just sit and talk for a while, and then he has to go back to work into the night and I'm grading papers."

Jill also revealed that Biden likes keeping up with the Sunday night tradition of having dinner with his entire family, which includes their 31-year-old daughter Ashley, Biden's 51-year-old son Hunter and their grandchildren. "We try to keep the Sunday night dinners. It's been a little busy lately. We still do it and the kids look forward to it, and I think traditions really ground kids," said the FLOTUS.

Apparently, their granddaughters have also learned to keep up with the dinner traditions that the first couple has adopted for a long time. "It was funny, recently, my granddaughters called me and they said, 'Nana' — you know I love to have a beautiful table with candles and flowers or whatever I can find to put on it — they said, 'Nana, we're making our own dinner and we're doing it Nana style," said Jill.

"So some of it has permeated [through the family]. I hope that they continue on the traditions too," she added.

We previously reported that Jill leaves little messages "on the mirror above the sink" when she feels Biden needs some motivation for the day or his faith reinforced. In his first interview since taking office, Biden told People Magazine how Jill makes sure to communicate a "real message" by whatever means necessary as she reminds him of "hope" and helps to center him.

"Jill, when she wants me to get a real message, she tapes it on the mirror above the sink where I shave," he said. "And she put up a great quote from Kierkegaard saying, 'Faith sees best in the dark.'"

The POTUS also went on to praise Jill for always supporting him. "She has a backbone like a ramrod," he said. "Everybody says marriage is 50/50. Well, sometimes you have to be 70/30. Thank God that when I'm really down, she steps in, and when she's really down, I'm able to step in. We've been really supportive of one another."

He continued, "I've read all that data as well about families under pressure, and that's why I'm glad she kept her profession. It's really important that she's an educator, although she took off two years when we first got married because the boys were little. It's important that she has the things that she cares a great deal about, her independence. And yet we share each other's dreams," Biden added.
