President Joe Biden raised eyebrows after his bizarre response to a Fox News' Peter Doocy, who asked if he had "underestimated" his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The US leader responded by staring blankly at the cameras and picking his teeth.

This is not the first time Biden and Doocy have grabbed headlines over their exchanges. Last month, after the Fox journalist, submitted a question regarding US inflation, the POTUS was caught on a hot mic criticizing him and calling him a “stupid son of a b***h." Doocy later said that Biden had called him to apologize within an hour of the event, telling the reporter, "It's nothing personal, pal."

Doocy asked Biden at a Tuesday afternoon presser, "Do you think you may have underestimated Putin?" Instead of responding to the journalist, the commander-in-chief appeared to stare blankly at the cameras and pick his teeth as White House officials asked the press to leave so the minerals event with Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and climate adviser Gina McCarthy could continue sans reporters.

"The thing I love about the press is they're always on message," Biden commented once the press had left the room. He then joked with those participating at the event virtually, including California Gov Gavin Newsom, whom he asked, "Did you underestimate Putin?" Despite the growing backlash against his administration over the Ukraine-Russia crisis, the President appeared to be in a more jovial mood after announcing new sanctions against Russia.

"Hi, everybody. How are you? Gavin, how are you, man?" he said as the meeting commenced. Newsom told Biden he had an "over/under that you were going to do this today" and that he was "impressed." The Democrat governor added, "Thank you for not canceling on us." Biden then indicated that wasn't on the cards. "Oh, are you kidding me? We don't have much going on, you know, other than Russia and Ukraine and - anyway," he rambled on. "Should we start? I guess I'm starting, huh? I guess I already started," he continued, laughing.

Biden then went on to tout the steps his administration has taken to boost American production of minerals used to make electric vehicles and other renewable energy products. However, he stressed that the new mines should benefit host communities and not cause environmental damage. Nonetheless, the President was excoriated on social media for not responding to the press about Putin and picking his teeth instead.

"Picking your teeth was a nice touch @POTUS, reminds me of a nursing home patient with dementia," one Twitter user wrote.

"This is what a weak, senile, incompetent fake President with a silly idiotic grin whilst picking his teeth looks like as he ruins a great Country and makes the US a laughing stock in front of its enemies," someone else added. "His minders can't even trust him to answer questions for the press corps."

"I wonder how much longer are we supposed to permit this administration to continue to make America the laughing stock of the world. Biden picking his teeth in front of the world and having that dumb look on his face and not answering any questions. Something needs to happen," another offered.

Moments before reporters left the room, Biden suggested he still had Putin on his mind as he claimed California's economy was "bigger than the size of Russia's." Newsom then said that it was "twice the size, Mr. President," and noted that California had the fifth-largest economy in the world. "So treat us well," he added. Biden responded by joking, "But who's paying attention, right?"
