Biden campaign's 'Trump Tax Calculator' lets Americans know how much more they pay than the president

This comes shortly after the NYT claimed that Trump paid just $750 in 2016 and 2017, his first two years in office

Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris have pounced on reports of President Donald Trump's alleged triple-digit tax payment — creating an online tool to do some quick math for American taxpayers. The 'Trump Tax Calculator' is live on the Democratic presidential candidate's website. The tool is quite basic — a user must enter the amount of income tax they paid in 2017 and it'll deduct $750 — what the New York Times claims Trump paid that year — to show how much more tax the user has paid as compared to the president, TMZ reported.

"To get you started on your outrage, they offer up an example — noting the average American pays $11,165.39. That number minus 750 is ... any geniuses in the house???" TMZ wrote. "Yeah, the average 3rd grader can do this math, but Biden/Harris ain't passing on the opportunity to stick it to Trump."

This comes shortly after the NYT claimed to have accessed several years' worth of Trump's tax information and reported that he paid just $750 in 2016 and 2017, his first two years in office. It further claimed that he paid no income tax prior to that. Top House Republican Rep. Kevin Brady of Texas on Monday, September 28, called for an investigation into the so-called sources of the NYT story that claimed to detail two decades worth of Trump's financial dealings.

Brady, the head Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee, said in a statement that a “felony crime was committed” by giving the president's tax information to the newspaper — if said sources really did divulge that information. "While many critics question the article’s accuracy, equally troubling is the prospect that a felony crime was committed by releasing the private tax return information of an individual — in this case, the President’s,” he said.

“To ensure every American is protected against the illegal release of their tax returns for political reasons, I am calling for an investigation of the source and to prosecute if the law was broken,” he added. That said, Trump and the White House have both rebuffed the report, with the president calling it “fake news” during a press conference on September 27.

"The Fake News Media, just like Election time 2016, is bringing up my Taxes & all sorts of other nonsense with illegally obtained information & only bad intent," Trump later tweeted on September 28 morning. "I paid many millions of dollars in taxes but was entitled, like everyone else, to depreciation & tax credits," he continued. "Also, if you look at the extraordinary assets owned by me, which the Fake News hasn’t, I am extremely under leveraged — I have very little debt compared to the value of assets."

"Much of this information is already on file, but I have long said that I may release financial Statements, from the time I announced I was going to run for President, showing all properties, assets, and debts. It is a very IMPRESSIVE Statement, and also shows that I am the only President on record to give up my yearly $400,000 plus Presidential Salary!" he concluded.

While the President may brush off the NYT report as fake news, he will likely have to address it during the first presidential debate that is scheduled on September 29 at 9 pm ET.
