BH90210 reboot: The OG cast try hard to stay relevant with new show featuring heavy dose of nostalgia and relatable drama

While every reboot show tries to stick to their name and the nostalgia element, the revival of BH90210 is not for everyone.
UPDATED AUG 8, 2019

**Spoilers Ahead**

The wait is over, as Fox finally took us back to the familiar zipcode loved by fans.

BH90210 is a reunion of Beverly Hills 90210, where the original cast of the 90s fan-favorite show, except late actor Luke Perry, play heightened and fictionalized versions of themselves. Even though the reboot series wouldn't make the list of the top weirdest revivals till date, but BH90210 is still a little strange with a bit of mystery added to it. When you watch the first episode of the series, you will realize that it is not exactly the rip-off the trailer revealed it would be, and overall you will know it's good as you watch it. It is more or less meta and a parody version where fans will also get a little inside scoop of the characters' lives during and after the show.

In the words of Jason Priestley, "This is weird." And that's exactly how the Beverly Hills 90210 stars feel as they arrive and convene at a hotel in Las Vegas for a panel that was celebrating the series' 30th anniversary along with a fan convention. The one-time teen stars and sexy actors of the 90s' fan-favorite series - Jason Priestly, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Green, Ian Ziering, and Gabrielle Carteris - are now matured middle-aged adults who are dealing with a mid-life crisis of their own.

Though Perry's absence can clearly be felt amongst them, they address it in a quiet, awkward manner. But even if Perry was still alive, there is a low possibility that he would have made an appearance in the reboot because he already had a permanent role in CW's 'Riverdale'. It is clearly seen that Perry's loss is very much felt amongst the actors on the show, not just because he played the role of everyone's favorite Dylan McKay, but because he was one of the few members who could challenge things that the series was trying to do.

Their reunion in Las Vegas depicts what looks like a cheap and not so looked forward to reunion. Not just that, the panel discussion goes terribly wrong as one of the fans reveals that Garth has been divorced for the third time. Shannen Doherty did not attend the event seeming a bit estranged from her co-stars, but she did facetime them at the venue, which makes fans forget the rest of the cast there and fawn over Doherty. Though the panel discussion doesn't go as expected, this causes Spelling and Garth to realize that a reboot of the show that was loved by all might be the best way to overcome their current boring life.

Wanting to get the rest of the co-stars on board, Spelling takes on the role of her father and decides to produce a revival within the revival. She promises her co-stars whatever they want in order to lure them to agree on doing the reboot. It makes us wonder if Spelling and Garth had to do the same thing in real life. Over the course of the first two episodes of the six-episode reboot, things go from one scene to another like a whiplash. At one point, viewers will get to witness a very drunken Spelling try to steal a famous dress she wore in a favorite episode. The next minute you'll see Carteris kissing a bartender. Next scene the gang can be seen in a plane toasting to their late co-star Perry who passed away when the reboot was in development.

Barely five minutes later, the gang will find out someone's spouse is having an affair and is being blackmailed. The next minute the cast who have bonded again have a tiff and go their own ways. And bam! Spelling gets the idea of getting the gang back together for a reboot. The whole episode goes so fast, sometimes you might find it hard to follow.

There are a lot of things that fans of the OG show will enjoy, starting from Garth and Spelling's comedy and chemistry to much more. While every reboot show tries to stick to their name and the nostalgia element, the revival of BH90210 is not for everyone. The die-hard OG fans of Beverly Hills 90210 will be the ones who will enjoy it the most.
