Bette Midler mocks Melania Trump's accent again with meme, Internet says FLOTUS 'doesn't deserve your rhetoric'

Actress Bette Midler has angered fans once again by mocking the accent of soon-to-be-former First Lady Melania Trump on Twitter just months after she was forced to apologize on Twitter for calling her an "illegal alien".

On Monday, November 9, Midler tweeted a meme that had a photo of the FLOTUS on the phone with a Christmas tree behind her with a speech bubble reading, “DO I STILL HAV TO DU DIS FU***** CHRISTMAS DING?” Although Midler chose not to add any caption to the tweet, her intention behind sharing it seemed pretty clear which enraged many of her followers.

Regardless of their feelings for the wife of the president, a number of users felt that it was not right to mock someone's accent, especially since they were originally not born in the United States. "She speaks 6 languages fluently, she is intelligent and has been given a raw deal by most people and all of the media. She does not deserve that or your rhetoric," one user wrote.

Another commented, "I don't like her, either, but ridiculing accents isn't cool, ma'am." The next added, "Are you seriously slating someone for their accent????" One person wrote, "I used to love you now I can’t stand you. Shame on you for disrespecting our First Lady."

However, there were those who did not find anything wrong with the meme and joined Midler in mocking the mother-of-one. "She never wanted to be FLOTUS, and it showed! She hated it all," one said while another added, "That’s ok she’s signing the divorce papers, booking an interview with Oprah for 60 minutes, practicing for DWTS and getting her book deal ready to be signed after the divorce so he gets none of her money!"

Alluding to the fact that President Donald Trump was denied a second term by President-elect Joe Biden, a user wrote, "We are fine with this moving out this week so they don’t have to worry about it." 

We had previously reported that Midler was slammed for mocking Melania's accent during her speech on the second night of the Republican National Convention on August 25. Midler was clearly watching the first lady's speech live as she kept on passing one comment after the other on Twitter on Tuesday, August 25, night. However, when it came to one particular tweet, where she openly mocked Melania's accent, she started receiving backlash from social media users.

"Oh, God. She still can’t speak English," she wrote. That was not the only thing that Midler had to say about Melania as she went on a lengthy Twitter rant shortly after Melania began giving her speech. "#beBest is back! A UGE bore! She can speak several words in a few languages. Get that illegal alien off the stage!" she wrote in a tweet, adding in another, "#Melania took all the color out of the #RoseGarden but Don tried his utmost to bring some back with that greasy bronzer!"

After being branded xenophobic, Midler apologized for her remarks in a follow-up tweet and said, “Well, all hell has broken loose because I said Melanie ‘still can’t speak English’ last night. I was wrong to make fun of her accent. America is made up of people who speak with all kinds of accents, and they are all welcomed always.”
