After President Donald Trump tried to prematurely declare victory despite many of the battleground states still not having finished counting all the votes, including those cast via mail, a clip of a prediction made by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders went viral on Twitter in which he seemed to accurately claim that POTUS would make such a statement if results were close. The clip in question was from an interview Sanders did with comedian Jimmy Fallon on October 23, on 'The Tonight Show.' The video where the former Democratic presidential candidate predicted that Trump would not wait for all the votes to be counted before declaring himself the winner, was initially tweeted by a user with the handle "@onikasgivenchy." The tweet has received nearly 500,000 likes and counting and retweeted more than 200,000 times. It was captioned, "Man... he called it WORD for WORD."

It was later retweeted by writer and activist Shaun King with the caption, "Bernie Sanders is a prophet."

During the October interview, Sanders told Fallon: "You're going to have a situation, I suspect, in states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, other states, where they are going to be receiving huge amounts of mail-in ballots. They're not able—for bad reasons—to begin processing those ballots until Election Day or maybe when the polls close. That means you're going to have states dealing with perhaps millions of mail-in ballots."

In swing states such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Georgia, thousands of mail-in ballots are yet to be counted. "Democrats are more likely to use mail-in ballots, Republicans are more likely to walk into polling booths on Election Day. It is likely that the first votes that will be counted will be those people who came in on Election Day," Sanders continued.

"It could well be [...] that at 10 o'clock on election night, Trump is winning in Michigan, he's winning in Pennsylvania, he's winning in Wisconsin and he gets on the television and he says: 'Thank you, Americans, for re-electing me. It's all over. Have a good day.' But then the next day, and the day following, all of those mail-in ballots start getting counted and it turns out that Biden has won those states. At which point Trump says: 'See? I told you the whole thing was fraudulent. I told you those mail-in ballots were crooked. And, you know, we're not going to leave office.'"

A number of people reacted to the clip. "That is freakishly accurate right down to the three big states in question," one said, while another wrote, "If he does all of that. This is going to be a very and I mean very ENTERTAINING 4yrs. Lol" A third commented, "This is like Tony Romo calling a play before it happens on national television"

There were also people who could not help but sing praises of Sanders as a politician. "A brilliant, beautiful man, a once-in-a-lifetime candidate," one said. Another remarked, "Can someone explain to me why he dropped out of the race in the first place? He would’ve had my vote"

In his remarks from the White House, Trump attacked legitimate vote-counting efforts, saying: "Millions and millions of people voted for us. A very sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise that group of people." Trump insisted that the states where vote tallies currently show him leading should be called in his favor despite significant votes yet to be counted. "We were getting ready for a big celebration. We were winning everything. And all of a sudden it was just called off," he said, and claimed fraud without any evidence. "This is a fraud on the American public. This is an embarrassment to our country," Trump claimed. "Frankly we did win this election," he said.
