Bernie Sanders co-chair Nina Turner says voting for Joe Biden is like 'eating half a bowl of s**t'

The enthusiasm for Joe Biden's presidential bid in the Democratic Party has been called into question after a co-chair of the Bernie Sanders campaign vividly expressed how she felt about choosing between the former vice president and President Donald Trump in November. “It’s like saying to somebody, ‘You have a bowl of s**t in front of you, and all you’ve got to do is eat half of it instead of the whole thing.’ It’s still s**t,” Sanders co-chair Nina Turner told The Atlantic.

The former Ohio state senator was quoted in an article that explored the president's paths to re-election and how he could exploit disaffected supporters of Sanders’ campaign. The Vermont senator lost to Biden despite having won the first three state Democratic contests earlier this year. However, Trump maintains that Sanders was cheated out of the nomination by the Democratic Party.

According to the New York Post, the president is seeking to gain traction among Sanders' supporters by highlighting how Biden "supported the Iraq War, voted for the North American Free Trade Agreement, and authored a 1994 crime law credited with contributing to the 'mass incarceration' of Black people." Trump touched on the support he receives from Bernie Sanders' voters during a Father’s Day discussion with his son Donald Trump Jr last month.

“Last time I got a lot of Bernie Sanders voters, as you know, a very good percentage. People were shocked, mostly because of trade,” Trump said. “One thing Bernie was right on was trade. He said that everybody in this country is being hurt badly by our trade deals. They’re so bad. And I get a lot of support from Bernie Sanders [supporters]. I think I’m going to have it again this time," the president added.

Trump has empathized with Sanders multiple times despite repeatedly calling him “Crazy Bernie”. During the controversy involving Sanders and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren earlier this year in which Warren accused Sanders of saying that a woman can’t be the president, the president refused to believe that Sanders could say so. He, however, also made it evident at the time that he didn’t like Sanders.

Even during his trip to India in February, Trump did not stop talking about Sanders and the Democrats’ alleged conspiracy to derail the latter's campaign. He accused the Dems of having leaked intelligence reports to undermine Sanders. “(Democrats) don’t want him, so they put out a thing that Russia is backing him,” he claimed at the time.

Some Sanders supporters have vocally resisted jumping aboard after the socialist leader endorsed the presumptive Democratic nominee and released a "unity" agenda with him. Former Sanders national press secretary Briahna Joy Gray tweeted on Saturday, July 25, that journalists should “start asking Biden why he doesn’t support the progressive policies that EARNED Bernie enthusiastic support.”

And after Sanders' exit from the presidential race in April, some of his most fervent supporters — including the so-called Bernie Bros — vowed they would absolutely not vote for the former vice president, even if it meant handing Trump a second presidential term. Seeing as the same 12 percent (Cooperative Congressional Election Study) of the Bernie Bros had voted for Trump following Sanders' exit from the elections then, that may not be an empty threat.
