Spoilers for 'Bering Sea Gold' Season 9 Episode 8 'Dive Hard With a Vengeance'

Ken Kerr is out of commission for a while and that was exactly what Shawn Pomrenke needed to rake in over 180 ounces of gold to make to reclaim his title of Mr Gold. The other captains weren't far behind as they inched closer to the target they had before the winter season set in. Kris Kelly, ever the outspoken persona, called himself a bottom-feeder but was determined to get some gold by working in the trenches behind the AU Crabber where he also assists them with repairs and diving.

The move reaps its rewards as Kelly & CO. after diving for a good four hours unearth some chunky pieces of gold. With this, the Reaper finally has a win and a much-needed one at that. The Myrtle Irene, bruised and battered by the storm, docked and Kerr switched to an all-hands-on-deck situation as they work furiously to get the dredge up and running.

Emily Riedel of the Eroica makes some massive strides as dive, Daryl finds some bit of gold at the bottom. Coming to their assistance is Steve Riedel, her father. Steve Riedel is a familiar presence on the show and only time will tell how this season pans out for the unorthodox miner. Vernon Adkison strikes a deal to mine at Goldbottom Creek. Back in the day, the inland mining site was rich with gold, but now it is more of a river and wasteland. With the risk of mining on a depleted reserve, Adkison gambles by getting a diver in.

Their reward? Chunky pieces of gold just like the Kellys. And across the other side, Shawn Pomrenke uses Sonar to figure out where the cobble has to get digging. After spending a good deal of time scouting, he finds a zone with enough cobble. Panning them, he realizes he just hit paydirt as he bags a three-figure mark.

Kerr may still have a slender lead, but if the Myrtle Irene isn't back in action, it will only be a matter of time before he relinquishes the crown. 'Dive Hard With a Vengeance' leans towards the cliched line of "sunshine after the storm" as the episode follows the captains working double-time determined to make amends. With the summer coming to a close, only time will tell how many of them reach their target.

'Bering Sea Gold' Season 9 airs on Fridays at 8 pm ET on Discovery.
