'Below Deck' Season 8: Eddie uses snark to put Shane in his place and fans say the bosun's 'being a jerk'

Eddie did not need to react this way when dealing with a newcomer like Shane, feel fans

Shane Coopersmith is new to yachting and is more invested in restoring and preserving the nature than washing boats and serving guests. On land, this will get him places but when he has signed up to be a deckhand on a luxury yacht, he must abide by the rules. At least, that is what is expected of him. Bosun Eddie Lucas has given him a few chances to help him get a handle on things but Shane seems to be taking his time learning the tricks of trade. 

Shane while communicating with Eddie over the talkie said "exterior, exterior, we have rain coming in," to which Eddie responded: "You are very observant." But clearly Shane was not impressed with how Eddie treated that information. "I am not a pushover," the newbie expressed. Later the bosun and deckhand picked a cold fight over it that was laced with indirect jabs and sarcasm, which clearly was not appreciated by Shane and the viewers. They seem to think that Eddie was out of line in reprimanding Shane for making mistakes. 

"Shane is in over his head but Eddie isn't doing much to aid & lead him," a user commented on a Reddit thread, another pointed out: "I do not, he was trusted with a position of leadership and training your staff properly without smart ass snark is part of his job. If I acted that way with my employees I would not find success. Sarcasm only works once you have built a relationship of mutual trust & respect."

"Dang Eddie, were you studying at Prick University in your time away from the boat? You used to be mad chill now you’re a bit of a dick. #belowdeck," a fan commented, another posted: "Eddie, that was a jerk-y comment. You could have simply no respond. Had the situation been reversed, he would have been reprimanded for it. #BelowDeck."

"Shane is just trying to get the line! Give the kid a BREAK! He SAID he's green! Eddie is being a JERK! #BelowDeck," a user tweeted.
