#BBQBecky: California white woman who called the cops on black people enjoying a barbecue has become a viral meme
There are some in the country who are responding to these racist incidents with love. Like the residents of Oakland, who held a large cookout in the same region.
A white woman, last month, had called the police on a black family enjoying a barbecue at the Lake Merritt in Oakland, California. The video of the woman complaining that the family was using a charcoal grill in an area not meant for the particular type of grill had become viral last week.
The United States is increasingly witnessing cases of racial profiling of black and other people of minority communities in the country by its white citizens. Over the last few weeks, there have been multiple incidents of white people calling the police on black people and other people of color for activities like napping, sitting at a Starbucks, staying at an Airbnb, participating in a college campus tour and now for setting up a barbecue grill.
However, there are some in the country who are responding to these racist incidents with love. Like the residents of Oakland, who held a large cookout in the same region, after the release of the video, in response to the woman's actions.
