Spoilers for 'Batwoman' Season 2 Episode 1 titled 'What Happened to Kate Kane?'

In 'Batwoman' Season 2, another member of the extended Wayne family ends up missing and in the wake of this, Gotham city is in chaos. There is no news of what really happened to Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) and the very few people who do know that Kate is Batwoman are also stumped about her going missing. The one who does stumble upon Kate's Batsuit, purely by accident is Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie). She is an ex-con who is living out of her van because no one in Gotham City is ready to rent a place for someone who is paying court fines. She doesn't have a job despite having trained in martial arts before, and that has only further aggravated her situation.

At this point, when she does find the suit, she thinks of it as a reckoning, a gamechanger that might finally lead to the winds changing in her favor. While Ryan is considering how all of this would change and help her life, Kate's friends, Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson) and Mary Hamilton (Nicole Kang) are worried sick. The fact that Kate has gone missing and may never return, or that she would go AWOL without getting in touch with either of them doesn't sit right. Of course, they are right to think so. Now, with Ruby Rose off the show as Batwoman, what matters most is how Ryan will take on the mantle and where that leaves Alice's plans.

We must also note that the piece of kryptonite that Kate had given to Luke for safekeeping, a piece that Kate had wanted to destroy in the first place, is now part of a sick plan that Alice aka Beth Kane (Rachel Skarsten) and Tommy aka Hush (Gabriel Mann) are plotting. With Kate missing while on her way to meet Kara Danvers, the kryptonite has no one guarding it and it ends becoming the perfect opportunity for Alice and her gang to plan and get their hands on it. So when Ryan decides that the suit will make her powerful and believes that she will never again be in the same position as she was when her mother and she had been attacked in the past with access to the suit, she is not aware of the consequences of what it really means to take the cowl on.

Essentially, Season 2 will just be another origin story for a different Batwoman who is Ryan Wilder. We also see Bruce Wayne return to the Wayne tower after four years, but is he really who you think he is? Also, it takes quite some time to get used to seeing someone other than Ruby Rose in the suit. So when Tommy is parading as cousin Bruce, has everyone fooled that he returned to help find Kate, Alice is unhappy that she did not get to kill her sister the way she had planned, which was to get their father to kill Batwoman with the kryptonite only to realize later that Batwoman was none other than his daughter. Can we really get used to a different Batwoman? We will have to wait and see.

'Batwoman' Season 2 episodes air every Sunday at 8 pm ET on The CW.
