Spoilers for 'Barkskins' Season 1 Episode 5 'Buttermilk'

'Barkskins' opened to a shocking episode on Monday, June 8, making some revelations that left fans with a lot of feelings. One of the main revelations that the episode made was telling what exactly it is that had happened with Delphine (Lily Sullivan).

In the previous episode that aired last week, it is hinted that there is something wrong with her body, because of which her "husband" Pierre Gasquet (Danny Gilmore) returns her to the convent. What exactly was this malfunction wasn't revealed then leaving audiences to wonder if it was a penis or genital mutilation. But when audiences were told earlier tonight about the painful source of this mark, they couldn't help but feel sorry for her.

"Oh no...... so that's what happened to Delphine......#Barkskins" tweeted a fan. "I think Delphine just described the plight of 99.9% of all Renaissance-period women. #Barkskins," added another.

Sullivan who plays the role has as a result of this become quite a liked character apart from series-favorite Hamish Goames (Aneurin Barnard). "I could watch a few dozen more hours of Hamish @aneurinBarnard and Delphine #LilySullivan #Barkskins @NatGeoChannel" tweeted a fan.

This week, 'Barkskins' is nowhere close to the escapism it offered viewers over the last few weeks. But it remains to offer audiences respite from the current ongoings of the world. This time around, the bloodshed is taken up a notch and the various schemes of men of Wobik are out in the open. "So #Barkskins is starting to hook me," tweeted one. "

The bloody events of this episode have pushed viewers to hope that harm doesn't befall their favorite characters. "Oh dear God. I had to watch @aneurinBarnard die as Richard III in The White Queen. Watching the preview for #Barkskins it didn't look good for him in the next episode. I'm not emotionally prepared to see bad things happen to my reason for living again," tweeted a view.

A search party is sent out to get back Rene Sel (Christian Cooke) and Father Gabriel (Domenic Di Rosa) after their abduction by the Iroquois. It remains to be seen how this kidnapping is going to prove for the settlement in the long run.

'Barkskins' airs on Mondays at 9/ 8c on National Geographic.
