The former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, recently got candid on the ups and downs of marriage and offered up great relationship advice. Michelle and her husband, former POTUS Barack Obama, will be celebrating their 28th wedding anniversary in October. Michelle opened up on just how much goes into a long-term relationship during an episode of The Michelle Obama Podcast with guest Conan O'Brien.

The two talked about the differences between men and women when it comes to marriage and how quickly they are ready to commit. Michelle had said that she always knew she wanted to get married while Barack had been a bit more hesitant as his parents had got divorced and his grandparents had a shaky marriage. Conan had added how he was not ready to wed until his late 30s. Michelle shared, "The same is true for me, and I think a man’s inclination to wait and to kind of go out there and search and get himself ready, I think is a good instinct that more young women should think about." She opened up on the ups and downs of marriage and said there were times when she wanted to push Barack out of the window. "There were times that I wanted to push Barack out of the window. And I say that because it’s like, you’ve got to know the feelings will be intense. But that doesn’t mean you quit. And these periods can last a long time. They can last years," Michelle said.

She advised people to look at relationships or searching for a partner like they are assembling an all-star basketball team and that one should pick the absolute best person to be with. "You want LeBron [James]. You don’t want the guy, third row on the bench, who didn’t make the team, but we often don’t think about that. What you’re supposed to say, is, ‘I have married LeBron. My version of LeBron'," she revealed. Michelle also stressed on the importance of giving yourself time to see the person you're dating "in an array of situations". She continued, "There’s no magic way to make that happen except getting the basics of finding somebody, being honest about wanting to be with them, to date them seriously, to plan on making a commitment, to date them, seeing where it goes, and then making it happen. You can’t Tinder your way into a long-term relationship."

Her speech and advice have received a lot of praise from social media users who took to commenting on the same. One such user shared, "Love this Michelle! I know these tough times but I also know the sun always comes after the rain. Thankyou for your time!" Another added, "The best first lady we've ever had that did so much and we've got another one on the way hopefully vote BLUE and vote early." Yet another commented and said, "Bring on the smiles, its helps to us weather the bricks and the sticks and the stones....:) nice speech at the dnc thankyou." "Well spoken. Advise our young people need.....including me. It just helped," wrote another.
