The Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, September 28, chalked up their third consecutive win this season against the Baltimore Ravens defeating them 34-20. Ahead of the MNF scrimmage, all eyes were on the quarterbacks of both teams — Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, some of the best in the business. Mahomes took the spotlight with five touchdowns that were instrumental in the Chiefs win. And that wasn't all. He set the record for the fastest passer in NFL history to 10,000 career yards.
Playing his 34th regular start, Mahomes completed a 13-yard pass that saw him overtake Kurt Warner who held the record at 36 games. In his first season as the starter in 2018, he ended up as the second QB in NFL history to register 50 touchdowns and record 5,000 yards in a single season. As far as stats go, these weren't the only ones. He joined veteran Drew Brees to produce multiple games with five+ combined passes and rushing TDs. Coming back to the game, his five touchdowns against the Ravens had Twitterati declare him as one of the undisputed players. His Michael Jordan-like shrug celebration just added to the fanfare. His figures for the day read: 31/42, 385 YDS, 5 TOT TD. As far as his matchup with Jackson goes, he is now 3-0 in head-to-head matchups against the Ravens QB with wins in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
"Patrick Mahomes is making it abundantly clear who the better quarterback in this game is," read one of the tweets soon after the game, and this was seconded by another who declared him as the GOAT. "Mahomes the goat and I don’t want to hear anything else. Period. There’s literally no argument lol. Dude can’t even rent a car (24 years old) and is the topic of discussion every week at your job lol," a fan wrote.

And some nice things to be said: "Patrick Mahomes is an incredible talent and nice guy. He plays games like he's having fun in a pickup football game. He's such a great role model for kids and makes it so fun to be a sports fan."

One of the fans was already looking forward to Week 4. "So the next "Game of the Year" is next week: Patriots at Chiefs. Belichick won't shy away from the run, he defends Mahomes better than BAL, and Cam should play better than Lamar just did. But I definitely like KC in that one," he opined.

But I definitely like KC in that one.
That said, there was more than one reason why Mahomes was nicknamed the MJ of the NFL. At one stage in the game, he jogged around celebrating his TD's by counting them and shrugged just like Jordan used to. You can watch his celebration here:
Mahomes counts to 4. As in NFL Top 100.

And fair to say, Mahomes deserved to celebrate in style. Expert Clay Davis had this to say about Mahomes' celebration on Twitter: "Sports media keeps trying to manufacture a rival for Patrick Mahomes, but the reality is no one around his age is remotely close to him. At all. He’s Michael Jordan and they are the dudes Jordan beat."

With records being broken, Mahomes is well on his way to becoming one of the GOATs to have played the game and at this rate, he's well alongside Russ Wilson contending to be MVP. What are your thoughts on Mahomes being called the MJ of NFL. The Chiefs take on the New England Patriots next on Sunday, October 4, 2020.
