UPDATED NOV 26, 2019

The creators of the French crime-thriller series ‘Balthazar seemed to be approaching the series meticulously until they decided to conclude it on an unsettling note. Although the last episode retains your attention with yet another interesting murder mystery, the writers could have done more justice to the characters.

In Episode 6 of 'Balthazar', Raphaël and testifiesare seen investigating an unidentified body found at an accident site. The postmortem of the corpse and a video on one of the suspects' phones help them identify the victim as a subject of regular sexual assault and leads them to find a few more who are held captive by a psychopath.

While the rest of the episode follows Raphaël and Bach's resolution to solve the case, we also exposed to the better part of the characters' personal lives, which was kept under wraps from the start.

In the previous episode, Bach begins to question her husband's loyalty owing to his strange behavior. Although he summarily dismisses his wife upon being asked about his involvement with another woman, Bach's instinct prompts her to go through his phone, only to realize that she was right all along.

On the other end, Raphaël finally dares to open the journal that belonged to a victim from one of his previous investigations, which he believed could help him achieve more clarity on his beloved wife's death.

However, what he finds in it doesn't offer him any solace expect for establishing that the triangle mark found on his wife and another victim wasn't a coincidence.

As the last episode ends on a cliffhanger, we are left with nothing but loose ends, and lack of clarity. Although towards the end of the episode, Bach shows up at Raphaël's residence, we are unsure as to what she was expecting from him.

Is comfort what the damsel in distress is seeking from her colleague? Or does she want Raphaël to rebound considering his promiscuous nature to get back at her cheater of a husband?

Well, we couldn't draw any sensible conclusion from what we were offered in the last episode of 'Balthazar'. Maybe we need to wait for the next season for the answers?

All the episodes of 'Balthazar' are currently available on Acorn TV.
