'Backstreet Rookie' Episode 2 Review: Saet-byul remembers her first kiss with Dae-hyun and might be in love
'Backstreet Rookie' Episode 2 sees Dae-hyun arrive at the convenience store when Saet-byul is drinking beer outside the store with her two friends. The three of them clearly look drunk and all Dae-hyun can think about is firing Saet-byul because he believes that she brought her friends over to use the opportunity and let them have alcohol and food to their heart's content. Funnily enough, he sits down with them to have a drink when Saet-byul's friend baits him into having a drink with them. They tell him that they will reveal the real reason why Saet-byul joined his store as a part-timer if he sat down for a drink with them.
They reveal that the kiss that Saet-byul had planted on him three years ago was her first kiss. They also add that she hasn't kissed anyone since that day and hint at her interest in him. Dae-hyun already has a girlfriend, so he isn't perturbed about a young girl's interest in him. Instead, he continues to drink with Saet-byul's friends and crashes in the back room of the store. The morning after, just as he nurses a hangover, he sells cigarette packs to a boy who is seen wearing a college sweatshirt. It is assumed that he is a college kid, and of age to smoke. Turns out, however, that he stole the sweatshirt, and that he is underage.
If Dae-hyun doesn't give proof that he did check this student's ID, which must have been fake and fell for the student's plot, his store would be fine. If he is not able to, then his store will be suspended for two months and he will never be able to sell tobacco in his stores again. Considering half of the sales in any of the convenience stores are attributed to the sale of tobacco, Dae-hyun is in big trouble. He decides to go over all the security cam footage to find the first time when the student had come to his store when he had checked his ID.
However, since he doesn't remember the exact time or date, it turns out to be a tedious task. A task that he is forced to stop because his girlfriend has an emergency that she needs his help with. He initially seemed as if he was a pushover, who would give in to requests and demands made by others. However, when it comes to his store, Dae-hyun draws a definite line and that is refreshing.
While Dae-hyun is busy helping his girlfriend, it is Saet-byul who finds a way to clear her boss and his store of any suspicion, and this is what changes Dae-hyun's opinion of Saet-byul. The fact that she would work so hard for the store helps him come to the decision that she is good for the sales at the store. Even the inkling of the doubt that he had at the end of the day vanishes when he sees her dancing at the store to some unheard song just as he used to while he was alone and from the looks of it, he is definitely charmed.
