'Back to Life' Episode 4 sees Mandy become nervous on being questioned by the 'investigator' after he acquires a tape of her and Miri

Mandy was aggressively fighting her inner demons. What these demons are, have not been revealed so far. We only know this; Mandy blamed herself for the murder Miri was charged with. And with the "investigator" involved now, it looks ominous

Episode 4 of ‘Back to Life’ had two aspects to it. One was catharsis -- Miri (Daisy Haggard) and her mother Caroline (Geraldine James) made peace with each other; and her father Oscar (Richard Durden) made peace with the fact that his wife was having an affair (though only after beating up her beau).

The other aspect, in stark comparison, was that of rising tension. The episode saw Miri’s former best friend Mandy (Christine Bottomley) react aggressively to her inner demons.

What these demons are, have not been revealed so far. We only know this from episode 3: Mandy blamed herself for the murder Miri was charged with (Miri claims it was an accident). Mandy believes that had she reached the cliff on time, this whole thing could have been avoided.

We saw Mandy destroy a bouquet laid at the spot where the death had occurred -- the flowers were signed by “Dad”. Later, a still-frustrated Mandy went looking for Miri at the fish and chips shop where she worked. She even propositioned Miri’s boss for sex and then left when he appeared flabbergasted.

On her quest to find Miri, she reached her home and that is when things got murkier. At the Matteson residence, she was greeted by the same “investigator” who had accosted Miri in the previous episode.

This man seemed to not just know who she was but also how to touch her nerves. He questioned Mandy about the night of the death, something that threw Mandy off completely. He ominously said, “Even the best friends, they have secrets.”

The man had also stolen from Miri’s room a cassette that had a recording of Miri, Mandy and Lara (who died 18 years ago on that fateful night) singing. We saw him sitting at his tent near the site of the death, eating and listening to the tape.

No one still knows who this man is or what he is trying to uncover. One can only assume it won't lead to any good, given how seemingly malicious the man looks.

Back to Life’ airs every Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.
