‘Back to Life’ Episode 4 may find Miri more confident, owning her story and a much-needed friend in Mandy

It is possible Miri may decide it's time for the world to know her truth; not about her conviction, but about why people may have gotten the whole story wrong. Future episodes may also see Miri getting along with her ex-best friend Mandy, who gave Miri the confidence to tell Billy about her past

The ending of ‘Back to Life’ Episode 3 marked a new phase in Miri Matteson’s (Daisy Haggard's) life. As a woman who returned home after an 18-year-stretch in prison, Miri had so far been trying to adjust to the real world, hiding her past, afraid of how she might be judged for a crime she considered an accident.

But after she told Billy (Adeel Akhtar), her neighbor and someone she may be developing feelings for, she realized, if only for a moment, it was easier living with the truth. Her confession to Billy did not go as planned -- not only did Billy get a panic attack, he also asked her to leave.

Even after she told Billy her version of the event, he wasn’t fully ready to forgive or even try to understand her position. He judged her based on hearsay and he pushed her away.

Despite that, it seemed as if Miri had now decided to own her truth. At the clinic she went to for treatment, she told the clerk she was an ex-convict with confidence. And what do you know, she got her way with things for once.

So will we now see a transformed, more confident Miri? It seems likely. This newfound confidence may help Miri get better at her job. On the other hand, a more bad**s Miri might also become more confrontational, and that can’t end well.

She might confront her mother on her behavior and the truth about her affair with Miri’s ex might come out -- already, Miri’s father seems to be having some trouble dealing with the whole mess. On the other hand, future episodes may also see Miri getting along better with her ex-best friend Mandy (Christine Bottomley).

After all, it was Mandy who gave Miri the confidence to tell Billy about her past. So, while Miri may lose Billy, she may gain back an old friend, something she desperately needs right now.

But how will a confident Miri react to the "investigator" who has been following her, and even accosted her at the fair when she was with Billy? It is possible Miri may decide it is time for the world to know her truth; not about her conviction, but about why people may have gotten the whole story wrong. In any case, whether or not things work out for Miri, the good thing is at least she is no longer afraid.

‘Back to Life’ airs every Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.
