Pregnant woman's unborn baby girl cut out of abdomen by old school friend who killed her at fake baby shower
A 24-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly murdered over her unborn baby by an old school friend. According to local media reports, the incident happened in Canelinha, Santa Catarina, Brazil, when the victim, identified locally as Flavia Godinho Mafra, was lured to a fake baby shower by the friend.
Mafra was reportedly 36-weeks pregnant when she was killed. The name of the school friend is not known, but the husband of the accused admitted to the murder as they killed her using a brick after calling her on the pretense of a baby shower. Paulo Alexandre Freyesleben Silva, the detective who is handling the case, said the woman died because of a sharp cut to the abdomen and wounds from a brick.
Mafra’s remains were discovered at around 9 am on August 28 by her husband and mother. The suspects have allegedly dumped her body in an abandoned pottery yard before taking the baby away. However, the police later got the details about the baby who was reportedly taken to a hospital by the school friend and her husband. Both of them were soon arrested, The Sun reported. The arrested woman told cops that after losing her child in a miscarriage in January, she became obsessed with stealing a baby.
Meanwhile, the newborn baby girl was still in the hospital receiving antibiotics and pain medication for the injuries sustained when she was taken out of Mafra’s belly. An autopsy will confirm whether the child was ripped from her mother’s belly while the young lady was alive or dead. It has been said that the funeral of Mafra, who studied pedagogy and worked as a substitute teacher, happened in the Municipal Cemetery of Canelinha.
In another incident, a 35-weeks pregnant woman was killed after being fatally hit by a car while alongside her husband on an Anaheim sidewalk. However, the accident did not harm her unborn as the baby was removed from the mother's womb and is currently being treated, Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer.
According to Sgt. Jon Yepes of the Anaheim Police Department, dispatch got a call reporting a traffic collision involving a speeding vehicle and a pedestrian near Bayless Street and Katella Avenue, east of Euclid Street. The vehicle, described as a white Jeep, reportedly jumped the curb and hit the woman - whose name has not been revealed due to legal reasons - who was walking with her husband on the pavement.
Local police said soon after the fatal accident, the 23-year-old soon-to-be-mother was rushed to the UC Irvine Medical Center, but despite the best efforts, she could not be saved. Her husband did not suffer any injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the jeep was taken to a hospital with minor to moderate injuries. The accused woman was suspected to be driving under the influence. As per police records, she was later identified as 40-year-old Courtney Pandolfi, who has two prior DUIs and was driving the jeep with a suspended license. I heard a loud boom…I run over there and I see there’s a lady on the ground…it looked like her head was banged up. The husband was, I think, checking her pulse and when he checked, he screamed,” witness David Orosco said.
