A disturbing footage showing Indian police officers questioning a man holding a baby while an accomplice digs a hold in the ground nearby to bury her has been doing the rounds much to the outrage of netizens.

The cops quickly found out that the man holding the baby was her grandfather and the man digging the hole was her uncle. The duo was trying to bury the baby alive in a wasteland situated in Hyderabad on October 31, 2019.

In an interview with NDTV, a police officer who remained unnamed shared, "An auto driver at the Jubilee bus stand ground noticed two persons with a bag in their hand. They were digging a pit in the ground. The auto driver immediately reported the incident to the police."

The news outlet added that the Jubilee bus stand is "quite a crowded area" but on that particular day there was a bus strike. The duo chose that particular wasteland because it was secluded, but they got spotted nonetheless.

During an interview with India Today, Constable S. Venkata Ramakrishna revealed, "After it came to our notice, we immediately went to the location and found a baby in the bag."

The grandfather and uncle who hailed from the Karimnagar district of the state of Telangana claimed the baby had passed away and the family instructed them to not bring the body back home from the hospital. And since the body of the baby wouldn't be allowed on public transport, they decided to bury her on the patch of land.

When cops arrived at the location, the baby girl's uncle was digging the dirt with his bare hands. The infant was wrapped in a pink and orange blanket. She was quite enough not to raise suspicion as the officers arrived. But it didn't take them long to notice the baby moving under the blanket.

According to NDTV, they revealed the infant had a bladder disorder that needed surgery. It's speculated the family was not interested in getting the surgery done or was unable to do it. The infant was taken to Gandhi Hospital immediately. The uncle and grandfather were questioned and released later.

An update from The Indian Express, on November 7, stated the infant was dehydrated but doing well at the hospital. It is still unknown if the grandfather and uncle were questioned further or charged for their attempt to bury the baby girl alive.

The cops who saved the baby from the duo right on time said they're just happy she was rescued.

The number of females in India has been reducing for decades. In July 2019, the Indian government released a survey that revealed the number of females per 1000 males in India was just 896 between 2015 to 2017. While there were 943 females per 1000 males in the 2011 census.
