Will 'Avengers: Endgame' see Loki pull off one last mischievous comeback?

While it is evident that we may see some of the heroes come back to life, Loki's fate still remains unanswered

By the end of the week,  'Avengers: Endgame' would have answered all the questions that the world has been asking ever since 'Infinity War'. In the last movie, we saw our beloved heroes take some serious walloping. And if that's wasn't enough, some of the characters whom we thought will make it out alive were snapped into ashes along with half the universe.  By the end of last year, we realized that the remaining Avengers had regrouped and were formulating a plan to take down Thanos. Well, Cap did promise to do the avenging, after all.

And despite the Russo brothers saying that the movie will not be what we expect it to be, it's fair enough to guess that some of the snapped victims will make a comeback. One question remains though, what about the antihero-turned-ally Loki who met his end at the hands of Thanos? Will he make it back too?

'Infinity War may have had its comical moments, but clearly, tragedy was imminent. Right at the start, we saw dead Asgardians strewn all over the spaceship, a beaten down Thor, a barely-alive Heimdall, a worn-out Loki, and the Hulk.

In the next 15 minutes, the Hulk received a sound bashing, so much so that he seems to have developed an irrational fear and didn't show up for the rest of the movie. Heimdall also met his end after saving Hulk's life, and in the most shocking of moments, Loki too died after having his windpipe crushed by Thanos who grimly says, "No resurrections this time."

Or did he?

Will he, won't he?: Questions still remain if Loki will be among the characters who will be resurrected. (Marvel)

Loki, also known as the God of Mischief, is Odin's adopted son and has "died" quite a few times before. Yes, we know that the Russo brothers said he'd bit the dust. But there are a lot of surprises that Marvel has thrown up in the past. It's isn't too much to hope for Loki to be alive.

Remember when he cruelly faked his own death in 'Thor: The Dark World'. Thor wept too and maybe so did Tom Hiddleston's fans. Let's break this down a little bit. Before Thanos killed Loki, he only possessed the Power Stone and could not detect the Space Stone before Loki uncloaked it.  He hadn't acquired the reality stone yet, meaning he wouldn't know if Loki had actually pulled a fast one on the Titan.  To further support this, the form he takes is solid and tangible, even when he died in 'The Dark World', meaning he could have been just about anywhere after creating a realistic illusion.

In subsequent interviews, Hiddleston has talked about exploring more of Loki as a character. Plus, a miniseries is in the works too and will be a part of Disney + later in the year, so there are chances (however slim) that we could see Loki around again.  The one thing that has been confirmed is time travel, from all the trailer footage we have seen, so it is likely that we'll see him again when the Avengers go back to the past.

There are reddit theories floating around stating that Loki may not come back. The fact that he died before the snap was one string theory, while fan theories went as far as looking at Loki turning blue when he died revealing that he returned to his original form: that of his origin in Jotenheim, meaning that he would pretty much remain dead.

Despite all this, while we all know that the final installment of the Infinity Saga will have a bitter-sweet ending, there's still a sliver of hope that Loki may just make it back alive. If he doesn't, we're pretty sure that Thor will ensure that he avenges his dead brother, and we get to see a miniseries as consolation.
