'Avengers: Endgame' could see Captain America die in the ultimate sacrifice

Rumored plot leaks and fan theories all point to the one coherent fact: Steve Rogers will be one of the main casualties of the war with Thanos

Spoiler Alert!

Ever since 'Avengers: Endgame' was announced, social media and fan pages have been filled with theories about the future of the Avengers since half the team, along with half the universe fell to Thanos' snap. As we get closer to the release date, speculations have only increased, thanks to all the trailers, TV spots and posters that Marvel showcased over the last few months.

When it comes to character deaths, Captain America is one of the Avengers who may not make it out alive after their final showdown with Thanos, and there are certain factors to support this theory. One that came close to what could be the most sensible theory of all is that of a French redditor, who claims to have seen the movie and has outlined the details of all that he remembers seeing.

And if you want to watch 'Avengers: Endgame' yourself spoiler-free, be warned.

In the final sequence, Captain America is reportedly shown to grab the infinity gauntlet from Thanos and tries using it against him, and while the move seems successful, it also sees Cap "being erased". The movie ends with his funeral and Bucky taking up the shield, while the rest of the original Avengers go their own separate ways.

This theory is much similar to what fans speculated in 'Infinity War', where Cap would die and the mantle would be taken by Bucky (Sebastian Stan) or Falcon aka Sam Wilson (Antony Mackie). However, with Disney announcing a miniseries titled 'Falcon and The Winter Soldier', it remains unclear if either of them takes up the shield or it will be the duo facing off against a new bunch of enemies and occasionally helping out the Avengers when they face a greater threat.

Furthermore, one of the possible plot points discussed was that of time travel where the remaining Avengers travel back in time to collect the Infinity Stones before Thanos could get his hands on them, build a gauntlet of their own and use it against the mad Titan to prevent the catastrophe. The above story only adds to this, and if in case, it is true, the only thing remaining as a memory of Cap would be the shield.

The other theory that suggests Cap may be the one to sacrifice himself has a lot to do with the trailers and the posters that Marvel has released. Much of the importance is given to Cap as he tries to take stock of the situation after the decimation and in the two trailers, three TV teasers, one super bowl trailer, and featurette that tallies about 12 minutes in total, Cap occupies roughly up to three minutes, followed by Tony Stark (a minute-and-a-half). In all of these clips, his voiceover takes up five minutes collectively.

To add to this, the posters too show Cap as the central character dwarfing Tony, who was the highlight in all posters released during 'Infinity War'.  Let's also not forget, Chris Evans officially hung up his boots as Captain America and did tweet about how emotional his last day in the Cap's suit was.

And that's pretty much the reason why the world thinks he will be the Avenger to make the ultimate sacrifice.

On the other hand, It has been less than 24 hours since 'Avengers: Endgame's leaked footage found its way into YouTube, Reddit, and Twitter, and needless to say, it has put fans in a state of turmoil. To ensure fans have a spoiler-free experience in the 10 days before the release of the film, the Russo brothers penned a letter to fans and followers appealing to them. The letter was posted on Twitter with the caption, "#DontSpoilTheEndgame" and one of the newly released Avengers emoticons.

Irrespective of all the theories and speculations, only time will tell about who the last Avengers standing wil be. 'Avengers: Endgame' will release on April 26.
