Avengers 4 could beat Infinity War to be the longest-running MCU movie, say directors
The number of superhero introductions and character deaths aren't the only records being set by Marvel's latest blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War. The ensemble movie which boasts a lengthy run-time clocking in at 2 hours 40 minutes became one of the longest films under the MCU banner.
However, if director duo Anthony and Joe Russo are to be believed, Marvel Studio's forthcoming movie, the yet untitled Avengers 4, could beat its previous installment, at least run-time wise.
Apparently, the makers of the next Avengers movie — the one that wraps up phase III for the Marvel Cinematic Universe — are looking forward to a minimum three-hour-long film in the pipeline.
“It’s pretty long. I don’t want to say how long it is because people tend to get really excited. Also, I don’t know that you can really call it a rough cut. It’s more of an assembly,” Infinity War director Joe Russo told Collider.
The director added, "It’s our longest rough cut. We have never gotten a time mandate from them at all. It could easily be a three-hour film but I think that we’re very hard on the material. We like it to play at a certain pace, so I’m sure we’ll squeeze it. We have a whole year of work left on that movie. I do think it’ll be longer than Avengers 3.”
Besides a longer run time, Avengers 4 could also introduce a host of new comic book characters, especially the ones created by Jim Starlin.
The suggestion was dropped by Starlin himself who discussed his contribution in Avengers 4 during a panel at Puerto Rico. Without revealing much, the comics co-creator teased that he would have more credits in the upcoming movie than he did for Infinity War.
Avengers 4 will arrive in 2019.
