10-year-old girl is eight months pregnant after she was raped by her 15-year-old brother
A 10-year-old girl in Argentina was found to be in an advanced stage of pregnancy after allegedly being raped by her teenage brother. The mother of the unnamed girl from Posadas, an Argentine province in Misiones, discovered the shocking fact after she took her daughter to a local hospital after she started complaining of abdomen and back pains. The girl was checked by the doctor, who discovered that she was eight months pregnant.
After the victim revealed that her 15-year-old brother had raped her, the doctors referred the case to a special women-only police station. According to the local reports, the girl had no idea what was happening and was raped by her older brother only once, Daily Mail reported.
The case is currently being investigated by the minors' judge Marcela Leiva and prosecutor Maria Laura Alvarez. Argentina has specialized police stations that are geared towards the needs of survivors of gender violence.
In the meantime, the brother of the victim, whose name has not been revealed, has been removed from the family, the Department of Social Development reported.
The Head of the Department of Childhood of the Ministry of Social Development, Ana Maria Pereira, said that it was too late for the victim to abort the child even though undergoing pregnancy was risky for both her and the fetus.
Periera added that the baby's grandmother will be granted custody of the child and that the victim will be continuing with her schooling post the delivery of the child.
The mother of the girl reportedly did not know anything about the sexual abuse going on in her family and was shocked to find out her daughter was pregnant. The situation remains tricky as the boy suspected of raping his sister is a minor and hence cannot be charged, as per laws in Argentina. His aunt has been given his custody after initially being sent to a center for minors involved in legal conflicts.
Apart from the 15-year-old, the victim has four other brothers and they are still living in the same neighborhood of Santa Rita, in the city of Posadas.
