'Apollo 10 1/2': Release date, plot, cast and all you need to know about the hand-drawn CGI film on Netflix
Richard Linklater has worked with the unique medium of hand drawn animation combined with CGI effects for films like 'Waking Life' and 'A Scanner Darkly'. He is now bringing this unique animation style to the moon, with 'Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Adventure', a film picked up by Netflix. This 1969 era space film will tell the story of the Apollo space mission, as seen from the point of view of a child looking up to the stars. The child's perspective will mix with the perspective of an astronaut on the space shuttle, and mission control. Release date
It is not confirmed when the film will release, but the live-action part of its shooting was completed in March 2020.
Plot
The film follows the perspective of a young child's excitement at the historic moment of the Apollo 11 mission to space. The film will also tell the story of an astronaut in the space shuttle, and mission control itself. While the film was shot in live-action, it will be presented in a mix of hand-drawn animation and computer-animated imagery.
"It struck me years ago that this was my film to make, from both a chronological and proximity level — I was there, going into 3rd grade," director Richard Linklater told The Hollywood Reporter. "Our unique animation style allows both the conjuring of a world long gone, and the flowing, playful expression of memory and imagination. It’s been a fun, creative journey to incorporate things like 3D graphics into a live action shoot to help bring this story to life."

Glen Powell
Glen Powell is an actor and producer who has worked with Richard Linklater before on 'Everybody Wants Some!!' He's also known for his roles on 'Scream Queens', 'Hidden Figures' and 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society'.
Jack Black
Jack Black is a comedian, actor and a rock star, known best for his work with comedy rock band Tenacious D and their film, 'Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny'. He's also known for his roles in 'School of Rock,' the 'Jumani' reboot and 'King Kong.' He has worked with Richard Linklater previously in the dark comedy film 'Bernie'.
Zachary Levi
Zachary Levi is an actor whose first major claim to fame was the action comedy series 'Chuck'. He has since appeared on 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel', 'Thor: The Dark World', and most famously, as a magically empowered superhero in 'Shazam!'.
The film also stars Josh Wiggins, Milo Coy, Lee Eddy, Bill Wise, Natalie L'Amoreaux, Jessica Brynn Cohen, Sam Chipman and Danielle Guilbot.
