'America's Next Top Model' alum Jael Strauss dies at 34 after battle with breast cancer
Jael Strauss, who competed on season 8 of America's Next Top Model, died two months after she was diagnosed with stage IV rapidly progressive metastatic inflammatory breast cancer
Jael Strauss lost her battle to breast cancer and passed away at the age of 34 on Tuesday. The model finished sixth on the eighth season of America's Next Top Model in 2007.
ET Online reports that Strauss first revealed her diagnosis on Facebook in October this year. In a heartbreaking post, she shared the details of her incurable breast cancer. She wrote, "I was gonna write some long thing but some of you guys deserve to know, On October 2nd I was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer." Jael was diagnosed with stage IV rapidly progressive metastatic inflammatory breast cancer. She continued, "It has aggressively spread throughout my body and is incurable. With treatment, it may prolong my life longer than the 'few months' doctors said I could make it. I don’t want to die. I need another one of those miracles that I got back in 2013."
The miracle Strauss is referring to is possibly related to her sobriety. Back in August, Jael put up a detailed Instagram post informing people that she had completed 5 years of sobriety. "Miracles are real, Recovery is possible for everyone no matter how far gone you think you are, We are never too broken to be put back together, Service work feels better than the greatest high, Sobriety makes you weirder, not normal😊," she wrote in part at the time. "And I’d be dead if it weren’t for all the love and forgiveness I’ve been showered with by my friends and family."

Today I have 5 years sober. Good God! I know a few things to be true: Miracles are real, Recovery is possible for everyone no matter how far gone you think you are, We are never too broken to be put back together, Service work feels better than the greatest high, Sobriety makes you weirder not normal😊 and I’d be dead if it weren’t for all the love and forgiveness I’ve been showered with by my friends and family. Thank you to anyone that’s ever let me sponsor them. Thank you to my partner Cody Bear for showing me what real love is like. Thank you to all my beautiful family (blood and extended). Because of this gift I have no friends, only family. Love you all! Keep up the good fight😘 #Recovery #sobriety #12steps #drphil #antm
Sources close to the model revealed that she died in hospice Tuesday around 11 a.m. after her health took a drastic turn on Monday night. Before her death, she was unconscious for a few days, and her family recently stopped allowing visitors.
A few weeks after her diagnosis, Jael also informed her fans that she would be stopping chemotherapy and went into hospice on Thanksgiving. "So many things I never knew about life,” she posted on Facebook at the time. “Or death. So many things.” After competing in ANTM, Strauss also appeared on Dr.Phil in 2012 to talk about her battle with addiction. Following the news of her breast cancer diagnosis, a GoFundMe page was created to help Strauss pay medical bills. “At the end of September, Jael became very sick and was diagnosed with aggressive Stage IV Rapidly Progressive Metastatic Inflammatory Breast Cancer,” the page revealed. “It has metastasized and spread beyond the breast tissue. She has just begun chemo, but we do not know how things will play out. What we do know is that Jael is putting all of her energy and drive into fighting this insidious disease and can use as much support and love as possible.”
