'Justice for Anthony Duran'
Wearing shirts that read 'Justice for Anthony Duran' with the 10-year-old boy's image on them, his family members and friends spoke to the reporters saying that it was not a health issue that led to his death. "He played football. He was in boxing. He just finished basketball. He had no health problems. That's what they're saying that maybe it was a medical condition. It was not," said Nellie Barragan, a family friend.
Talking to Fox26 News, the family members told that they are frustrated that authorities have not taken any immediate action. They also stated that they are yet to review the surveillance video of the altercation. "He's gone, and he's not coming back. Why? Why are they taking this long to do something? Why were there 10 police officers here the day of the incident and supposedly it was a medical issue," said Duran's aunt Angela Reyes.
It remains unclear whether the department has filed any charges in connection to Duran's death. According to the Merced County Coroner's Office, the department will be performing an autopsy and the official cause of death has not been determined.
