Anne Mitcheltree: Jordan Neely's assault victim slams NYC for ignoring attacker's mental health issues
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: A victim who was assaulted by a "dangerous" homeless man criticized the city for not taking the necessary steps to ensure that the attacker received the required mental health treatment, which was evident from his behavior. The homeless man, Jordan Neely, recently died from a chokehold in a New York subway station and had a criminal history that included around 42 arrests.
In June 2021, Anne Mitcheltree was punched in the head by Neely inside SK Deli Market on 2nd Avenue in the East Village. While the attack caused swelling and substantial pain, it did not result in any permanent damage. Following Neely's arrest by the police, Mitcheltree, who is 65 years old, expected that her attacker would face charges and be put in psychiatric care.

"They told me we have him, he’s in custody, we’re going to press charges," Mitcheltree told the New York Post. "I thought the judge would have forced him to take psychiatric meds, but it seems like he bounced out." "I don’t know why he didn’t end up in Bronx Psychiatric Center," Mitcheltree said, adding, "This is a common understanding in psychiatry, that agitated people who are aggressive get themselves killed." "After assaulting all these women in all these cases, and knowing that he was dangerous, they just let him go, to the point that he was murdered in NoHo," Mitcheltree said.
