Anne Frank, the 15-year-old Jewish diarist who died in a Nazi concentration camp in 1945 after two years of hiding, is a topic of debate on Twitter. The question that made netizens go bonkers was whether Anne had White privilege while she was alive.

A user with a Twitter handle, @Ka1zoku_Qu0d, on July 8 took to the platform to share his views on Anne, whose diary, published after her death, is the most famous first-hand account of Jewish life during the war. He wrote, “Hold on I want to make sure I say this carefully. Yeah Anne Frank had white privilege. Bad things happen to people with white privilege also but don’t tell the whites that." As per TMZ, it is unknown how this thread started, however, it seems to come from a warped notion that Jews had the benefit of their skin color to go unnoticed in public, if only temporarily, during that bleak time in history, while POC, historically, hasn't been able to do so.

Many started sharing mixed thoughts on this with one of them saying, "It’s time for our bi-annual garbage Holocaust take featuring Anne Frank and Jews as ‘white people’." Another user wrote, "Anne Frank definitely had white privilege because only a white girl could become that famous for a diary she didn't write."

On the other hand, many stepped in to point out that she was killed because she was jewish. A user said, "Anne Frank was murdered because she was Jewish. She didn’t have white privilege. Nazis were comparing Jewish people to rats & parasites. She had to spend the last years of her life in hiding before getting starved & tortured in the camps. This side of twitter is truly deranged," while another user said, "If you think 'Anne Frank had white privilege,' you don't know what "white" means. Race isn't real. It's made up. What makes you "white" is relative to your society's ideas. In Nazi Germany, she wasn't "white"; the Nazis saw her as part of a "Jewish race" & murdered her for it." One of many users asked the people debating over white privilege to check the facts in history. The user said, "Wow. Anne Frank is trending because a bunch of rabid, anti-Semitic, history-deficient folks are claiming she--a Jewish child murdered by the Nazis for not being white--had white privilege. Don't revise history, read a book, educate yourselves, and most of all, be less awful."

Otto Frank, Anne's father, also entrusted the original manuscript to the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation.
