Amy Schumer slammed as ‘woke’ white woman after speaking on Diddy's show about recent deaths of black people
Stand-up comedian and actress Amy Schumer seems to have come under the scanner after she was called to speak on Diddy's show. In a new episode of 'Revolt Black News', Schumer was called along with Shaun King, Stephen Jackson, Tamika Mallory and others to discuss social justice issues such as police brutality; and the continued killings of unarmed black men, women and children.
The episode focused on the recent shocking deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and several others from the African-American community. Inspired by Sean “Diddy” Combs’ successful 'State Of Emergency: The State of Black America & Coronavirus' town hall, the podcast is a platform to report news from the perspective of black people and for black people.
A major controversy stirred up on Twitter when viewers watching the LIVE show noticed Schumer was called to talk about the incidents. Most of the black community started trolling her and said her opinions were not needed. "Diddy said we having a family meeting and invited Amy Schumer," one tweet read and another said, "N***a said ‘Family meeting’ and put Amy Schumer on the line." One tweet said, "Idk about y’all but whenever there’s a discussion about police brutality, the first person I always wanna hear from is Amy Schumer."
One viewer went on to say, "She’s a classic example of 'women aren’t funny'," another said, "Who made Diddy the spokesperson for black people? This — invited Amy Schumer to speak on a virtual emergency black family meeting, lmao." Another viewer posted, "Diddy really had Amy Schumer on zoom talking about black issues?? These rich — be completely out of touch."
Questioning Diddy's choice to call Schumer, one wrote, "Sandra Bullock might have been a better choice. She has a black son." Another said, "That’s embarrassing. I specifically remember her being 'fake' arrested during a protest but smiling while taking pics for IG knowing god damn well she wasn’t doing two mins in jail, smh." One tweet read, "Well, if there's one thing there's not enough of in this world, it's hearing the thoughts of 'woke' white women."
Some, however, came in Diddy's support. "He was being inclusive. Did it ever occur to you that by family he meant America as a nation?" one tweet read and another said, "You know that if white ppl did not speak against slavery we would still be in the fields right?"
Do you think Diddy's decision was wrong? The weekly episodes feature conversations with experts, artists and elected officials. “When I started REVOLT, I always wanted to develop a platform to report the news from our perspective, from our lens, from our people, so I decided to launch Black News.” Diddy said, adding, “We’re here with solutions. We’ve already heard about what we can’t do, but this is what we can do.”
