Amy Meisak: Miss Great Britain celebrates title with lookalike mom Laurie who was runner-up in over 45 category
LEICESTER, UNITED KINGDOM: The newly crowned Miss Great Britain celebrated her victory with her mother who was also one of the top finishers in the Ms Great Britain Classic rounds. After competing in Leicester at the tail end of October, South Lanarkshire, Scotland native Amy Meisak, 29, defeated 37 rivals to win the coveted title. Her mother Laurie, 60, came in first runner-up in the Miss Great Britain Classic over 45 contest at the same event.
After her mother accompanied Laurie to pageants for years and served as her largest "cheerleader," Amy persuaded Laurie to enroll. Laurie, the mother of four told the BBC that participating in pageants had given her her confidence back and that she was now "loving life." Hamilton resident Laurie revealed to BBC Scotland's Mornings with Kaye Adams that she had been afraid to attend because of her age.

“You always do have a wee bit of 'Oh should I or shouldn't I at my age now?' but, you know something, I absolutely love being my age.” After receiving a Lupus diagnosis and losing her grandfather, Amy, the family's daughter, acknowledged that the previous 12 months had been a "challenge” for her which she overcame with great might. She explained to the radio host that she thought her creation of the Limitless workshop for women's empowerment set her apart from the competition. The workshop aims to support women by providing them with the knowledge and abilities necessary to deal with life's obstacles.
Amy, the daughter of a real estate investor, also disclosed to the BBC that she has been competing in pageants for many years and that her mother has always been a big backer. “Mum has always come to the pageants with me and always been my cheerleader. She knew all the pageant mums and she loved the glitz and the glamour. I said 'Mum, you should really think about entering this' and I think her words were, 'well, if you do it, I'll do it'.'” In the remarkable turn of events, both of them finished in the top bracket of their respective categories with Amy crowned as the new Miss Great Britain.
Pageants are not just about cosmetic attributes, according to the mother and daughter pair. They claimed that they are about women helping one another out. Amy and Laurie aren't sure if they'll enter the pageant circuit again after their respective victories but they both have kept their options open by saying "never say never."
