Why was Red Velvet's performance cut from 2020 Gangnam Festival telecast? Fans slams SBS for 'bullsh*t' excuse

The 2020 Gangnam Festival K-Pop Concert, which took place on October 18 and was live-streamed online, was later aired on SBS' television channel on November 1, but without Red Velvet's performance. Red Velvet, the South Korean K-pop girl group, took the stage as the final performers of the night and sang the hits 'Psycho', 'Bad Boy' and 'Umpah Umpah', but none of it was telecast.
While many speculated the reason to be the controversy surrounding Irene’s recent behavior, SBS released a statement regarding the channel’s broadcast of the 2020 Gangnam Festival K-Pop Concert.
The statement by SBS read, "Not enough time was allocated to the broadcast in comparison to the actual length of the concert. The overall length of the concert had to be shortened during the editing process. We ask for your understanding." The lineup at the 2020 Gangnam Festival K-Pop Concert included Kang Daniel, ASTRO, AB6IX, Oh My Girl and Red Velvet.
Fans of Red Velvet expressed their disappointment with one saying, "this is an a** explanation" while another wrote, "When SBS can edit out one performance of every artist since they perform many songs to fit on their timeslot. Their excuse is so lame."
Another tweeted, "Can Red Velvet just boycott SBS? Red Velvet deserves so much better than being associated with them," while a fan said, "If you didn't have time for the whole concert shouldn't you have cut from every artist performances not just whole Red Velvet performance?! Bullsh*t and you still own apologize toward Wendy."

Recently, Red Velvet’s Irene wrote an apology following accusations by an editor and stylist on Instagram about her rude behavior. On October 21, 2020, the Instagram post described an encounter with an unknown celebrity in which the editor was humiliated and brought to tears by harsh words. The editor wrote that she had before heard about the celebrity in question is rude and mentally prepared herself, but the reality was much worse.
She described the celebrity’s words as "electric needles," and said, "It was over 20 minutes that felt like hell in that unfamiliar room. Even when I thought about it for a while, I couldn’t understand her actions. After I collected myself, I wanted to talk to her properly, person to person, and receive an apology. However, she just disappeared. I recorded it in case something might happen. I should take action toward her."
The post included the hashtags #psycho and #monster. Many users pointed out that the hashtags are titles of songs by Red Velvet. Later, the editor deleted a complimentary post about Irene from 2016.
Irene later, on October 22, 2020, apologised on Instagram saying, "This is Irene. I am sincerely sorry for hurting the stylist with my foolish attitude and careless words and actions. Getting to this spot involved help from many people who worked together with me, but my immature actions caused great hurt and I regret that and am reflecting."
She continued, "I’ve been looking back on the past because of this, and I’ve felt very embarrassed because of my lacking words and actions and I once again feel how precious the staff are. I will be more cautious about my actions in the future so that this does not happen again. I am sincerely sorry to the fans who support me and to everyone who has been caused concern because of this."
SM Entertainment also released a statement saying, "This is SM Entertainment. We are conveying our statement about the stylist’s online post regarding Irene. Irene personally met with the stylist this afternoon and sincerely apologized for deeply hurting her with her careless attitude and emotional words and actions, and she feels sorry for causing concern with her immaturity."
"Our agency feels responsibility for this incident, and we do not forget the hard work of all the representatives and staff who work together with our company and our artists. We will work hard so that this does not happen again to the people we work with. We once again apologize for causing concern to many people," the statement added. Following these statements, the original post by the editor has now been deleted.
