Many who believe in educating the masses about racism would tell you that reverse racism is a myth as racism by definition is an oppression of a minority through power hierarchies over a period of time. To believe that reverse racism exists would be equal to believing that the marginalized group that had been systemically oppressed now has power over the majority. However, Nevada mother Gabrielle Clark has sued a charter school for not allowing her son the choice to drop out of classes that called for "hostility toward whites as a race" and one of the proofs that she has submitted is a meme that was shared in class which said that reverse racism doesn't exist.

In the federal lawsuit that was made available online, William Clark, Gabrielle's son, studies 12th grade at Democracy Prep at the Agassi Campus (DPAC), formerly Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy and has been studying there for six years.

The suit names the charter school, Democracy Prep Public Schools, the New York-based charter network, and several officials in the local school and network as defendants.

According to a report in The College Fix, Gabrielle had once before threatened to file a lawsuit if the school did not allow her son to drop out of the class and has now made good on her threat. The charter school forced Clark “to make professions about his racial, sexual, gender and religious identities in verbal class exercises and in graded, written homework assignments,” creating a hostile environment, the biracial high school student and Gabrielle Clark allege in their federal lawsuit filed Tuesday.

The lawsuit also claims that William had his statements "subject to the scrutiny, interrogation and derogatory labeling of students, teachers, and school administrators". Even as the institution is being sued, William is being forced to “accept and affirm politicized and discriminatory principles and statements that he cannot in conscience affirm.” William hopes to study music and the lawsuit stated that he had been "repeatedly threatened… with material harm including a failing grade and non-graduation if he failed to comply with their requirements."

The suit also claimed that William had not been given "reasonable accommodation" because he had rejected the course. The lawsuit filed by Gabrielle includes nearly 150 pages of exhibits similar to the meme that was shared that documents the curriculum in the graduation requirement titled ‘Sociology of Change’. It was alleged that the title promotes intersectionality and critical race theory. It was also reported that the officials had falsely promised students that their mandatory identity divulsions would be kept private. In reality, however, their graded assignments would ‘immediately became visible to all DPAC teachers and administrators’ and administrators would sometimes even covertly ‘tune in’ to the virtual sessions.

Some of the things that this title includes in its curriculum are to teach students concepts such as internalized oppression and internalized privilege. The former is targeted at students belonging to the marginal community understanding that they would have internalized a certain amount of oppression over a period of time despite breaking out of the chain while the latter is to teach students who are from a privileged background that they will have internalized certain entitlement which can and may be expressed as a denial of the existence of oppression and as paternalism.

William's mother is a single guardian who is unemployed and disabled according to the lawsuit, but she has taken an active part in shaping her son and other children's education. William's father, who was White, is deceased.
