LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The groundbreaking HBO Max original series 'The White Lotus' will no longer contend in the Emmys in the 'limited/anthology' category. But fans of the series should not worry as the series is now merely changing its competing category to 'drama'. 'The White Lotus' follows the story of several guests who arrive at 'The White Lotus' resort to relax. But things are not innocent as it seems and things begin to unravel and get out of hand fast. The series' first season took place in Hawaii and the second season was set in Sicily.

Both seasons of 'The White Lotus' have been created and directed by Mike White. Season 1 of 'The White Lotus' stars the ensemble of Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya McQuoid, Jon Gries as Greg Hunt, Murray Bartlett as Armond, Connie Britton as Nicole Mossbacher, and Sydney Sweeney as Olivia Mossbacher. Season 2 of the cast has seen Coolidge and Hunt reprising their roles. The cast includes F. Murray Abraham as Bert Di Grasso, Adam DiMarco as Albie Di Grasso, Aubrey Plaza as Harper Spiller, Beatrice Grannò as Mia, Meghann Fahy as Daphne Sullivan, and Sabrina Impacciatore as Valentina.

A change in category for Emmys 2023

'The White Lotus' will no longer be participating in the 2023 Emmys under the limited/anthology category, according to Variety. But Variety has confirmed that the series will be participating under the drama category. This decision was taken under the Television Academy's definition of an anthology as the stories must be resolved within the season. And as we all know Cooligde's character reappeared in Season 2, connecting the treads with the previous season, the change in the category is understandable.

This year's Emmy nominations are yet to be announced. The upcoming Emmys are to take place on Monday, September 18, 2023, and whichever category 'The White Lotus' is participating in this year, it will surely gain several nominations and might bag multiple wins this year as well. Season 2 of 'The White Lotus' has also gained 'Universal acclaim' with its layered plot and performances from the ensemble. A popular opinion among the fans of 'The White Lotus' deemed its second season to be better than the first one.

The series with high laurels

'The White Lotus' has garnered several nominations and accolades for both seasons and won 10 Primetime Emmy Awards, including for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Jennifer Coolidge, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Murray Bartlett and Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Mike White. The show has also earned 2 Golden Globe awards for Best Supporting Actress - Television Limited Series/Motion Picture for Jennifer Coolidge and Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Television Motion Picture.

It is to be noted that Season 3 of 'The White Lotus' is currently under work, and it has been recently revealed that the upcoming season might take place in Tokyo.

The first two seasons of 'The White Lotus' is available to stream on HBO Max.
