LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 21 kicked off with some stunning performances of Top 26 hopefuls who advanced to America's Vote. The aspiring singers performed at Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii to earn votes from the viewers to become the next singing sensation.

Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan return to the judges' chairs along with host Ryan Seacrest. Fans were treated to 13 contestants' performances and the others will perform tomorrow. Contestant Matt Wilson took the stage to serenade judges as well as the audiences with the mentorship of Allen Stone

Matt Wilson dedicates performance to his wife

Matt performed 'Speechless' by Dan + Shay. The aspiring singer revealed that the song reminds him of his wedding day. Matt said, "The best day of my life." Additionally, Matt brings his wife during the mentor session with Allen. However, the 'American Idol' alum noted, "I had hardly any notes for Matt." The contestant dedicated the song to his wife, who was sitting in the audience. While singing, Matt even approached his wife and sings to her directly and the scene was loved by the audience. Matt garnered praise from the judges. Luke noted that Matt is one of his favorites and said, "You got this whole look thing going on." Meanwhile, Lionel called his voice 'silky'. Katy praised the confidence that he has gained since his audition and dubbed his performance 'So gorgeous.' 

'Hell no!'

'American idol' judges loved Matt's performance but viewers were not impressed with him. One viewer tweeted, "Ok Matt! You better SANG to your wife!" Another person noted, "Matt was kinda bland. Idk. Didn't like his movements either." Another follower said, "Matt's in trouble #AmericanIdol He needed a great performance & that was just good." "Matt Wilson just isn’t doing it for me #AmericanIdol," penned another person. Another fan added, "His voice is shaky at moments and then he goes off-key." Meanwhile, another viewer wrote underneath Matt's performance video, "Hell no." Another user commented, "Exposed as a weaker singer, everything he does is safe and in the same range, time to make some cuts to people with big voices."
