'American Horror Story: Apocalypse' teaser is here and it is terrifying

'American Horror Story: Apocalypse' trailer is here and it is the perfect recipe for a nightmare - a newborn baby, a dark hand with creepily long fingers reaching out to the baby and a mushroom cloud erupting and swallowing everything around. Just like every AHS trailer out there though, it doesn't tell us much about what the story actually is. You have to admit though that it's almost as though the sneak peeks and the easter eggs here and there that creator Ryan Murphy leaves is much more fun sometimes, than the show itself.

The trailer starts with a fetus in an hourglass, incubating as its heart is pumping in the bottom half. Probably waiting to take over the world? Now kids are already pretty creepy when viewed in such a situation but to have something as innocent as an unborn baby and combining it with the forces of evil, is just plain scary! The heart of the baby suddenly catches fire and ends up in a cloud of gas that from the looks of it seems to be much like a nuclear explosion. The cloud clears to reveal a dark satin spread bed with a couple laying on it with gas masks.

As the woman gets up to look into the camera, her face melts - she's suddenly just a skull - which then gets dragged into the dark by a pair of black slender fingers. Then comes what looks like a part of the dark magic - a purple, pear-shaped fruit that gets slit open by long nails to reveal two scorpions. One black, one white, these two fight it out as the camera suddenly moves upward to the ceiling. As it crumbles, it reveals a pentagon on fire as an entity on a throne grabs it and puts it within themselves. It rains skulls then suddenly and as our eyes adjust to the fire, the whole scene fits right back to where it came from - the hourglass. Only this time, the same slender hands turn it upside down.

A crossover between 'AHS' season 1 'Murder House' and 'AHS' season 3 'Coven', 'AHS Apocalypse's trailer holds all the juice close to its chest for sure. One thing is for certain, the birth of the baby is where it all begins and ends. When we do come back to the end of the trailer, the baby is missing and is replaced by skulls as tiny as sand. the heart of the baby catches fire, indicating that the evil does get to the baby's psyche. For something as insane as AHS, having crazy kids is nothing new, the first season was a testimony to that. As far as the couple on the bed are concerned, it could be a symbol for the babies parents - most likely Tate Langdon (Evan Peters) and Vivien Harmon (Connie Britton). The dual colors on the scorpions could be a metaphor for the two energies surrounding the story - the forces of good and evil. The symbolism is so cleverly picked, in my opinion, because even if the two are fighting on opposite sides, they are both poisonous in war. Witchcraft is super close to the Pentagon reference.

There's a theory that suggests (Ryan Murphy himself retweeted) that all the seasons of 'AHS' are related and that they revolve around Dante's 9 circles of hell. Limbo, Lust, Gluttony,  Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, Fraud and Treachery. While most of these have been covered by the previous seasons, we would speculate that 'Apocalypse' may just be all about violence or a mix of lust and violence since its a crossover. While this trailer tells us very little about the characters or the plot, it does drop hints where it matters.

It has already been revealed that this upcoming season will be a reunion of sorts -  we will see the return of Jessica Lange along with Taissa Farmiga, Gabourey Sidibe, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy and Stevie Nicks. 'AHS' veterans Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Billy Eichner, Denis O'Hare and Adina Porter along with Dylan McDermott will also make a comeback on the season. Lange will be reprising her original role of the tragic and intrusive Constance Langdon. The character was last seen taking custody of her neighbors' satanic offspring in 'American Horror Story: Murder House'. She will, of course, be grandma Langdon now.  Cody Fern has been cast to portray the satanic baby in the series, the spawn that will spell doom for all. He is most likely the offspring of Tate and Vivien, who he viciously raped in the first season. It looks like they've aged but the sinister paranormal in their lives really hasn't.

'American Horror Story: Apocalypse' is slated to debut on September 12.
