Amber Heard CANNOT be Ambassador for Women's Issues, new petition urges ACLU to revoke her title

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's heated legal battle has taken a new turn after a series of leaked audiotapes from 2016 reveal she admitted to “hitting” her ex-husband. With the new evidence, people's perspective on the case seems to be shifting and many are wondering who the real “abuser” was.

Back in 2018, Heard penned down an emotional account of how she was the victim, saying, “I was exposed to abuse at a very young age.” She added, “Two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.” The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) had accepted half of Amber Heard's $7M divorce settlement and made her their 'Ambassador for Women's Issues'.

But, with the new set of allegations that point out how she admitted to abusing Depp, both physically and emotionally — just like he did — a new petition demands ACLU to withdraw her as their ambassador. Depp has also provided evidence that her physical abuse of him was severe, costing him the tip of one of his fingers — and that proves how both were "equally" responsible for their abusive and toxic relationship.

The petition reads, "It is unconscionable to have a domestic abuser like Amber Heard—who tried to claim unilateral victim status, only to be revealed later on to have admitted to being an abuser—lecturing others on the harms of domestic and intimate partner violence. This sets a terrible example for the public, and sends the message that abusers who are victims themselves are blameless, even after they try to cover up their own half of the abusive relationship."

It further says: "We demand that you revoke her status as your Ambassador immediately and award it to someone more deserving of the title. Keeping her on in this capacity is an affront to abuse victims of all genders, and a disservice to the cause of not only women's rights but gender equality overall!"

Several people side with the petition and feel Heard has misrepresented herself as a victim. "Heard's appointment (and legal fight and settlement) was based on misrepresenting herself as a simple victim. She is now revealed as also an initiator and aggressor. Her credibility is irreparably damaged and she harms the ACLU by remaining. Her donation is poisoned and should be returned," one comment read.

A tweet on this said: "Feminism is believing #AmberHeard and disregarding her violence toward Johnny Depp. #equality would be to take away as much of her reputation and jobs as she and cancel culture took from him."

More than 1,300 people have already signed up for the petition and it targets only 1,500 signatures.
