Royal Abbott already has enough on his plate by the time we're introduced to him on 'Outer Range.' The ranch he's looking after isn't really in its best shape financially and his land is being claimed by his neighbor Wayne Tillerson. A void appears on his property, and we see him make contact with it, though it's unclear whether it'll add to his woes or not.

Initially, Royal tries to cover it up after finding out that it shows him the future when he puts his arm through it, but his efforts go in vain. However, he uses it to dispose of a body towards the end of Episode 1 of 'Outer Range.' The opening scenes of the Amazon Prime Video series inform us that the Abbotts are reeling from the disappearance of Rebecca, Royal's daughter-in-law. Perry, her husband, and Royal's older son, is affected the most by it. His brother attempts to make him feel better and takes him out for a drink, during which they touch upon Perry moving on. Perry steps out to get some air after this conversation and throws up near Trevor, one of the heirs to the Tillerson Ranch.

'Outer Range' Episode 2 Review: The Tillersons create trouble for Royal, Autumn picks his brain

Actor Josh Brolin reveals his butthole got sunburned after 'perineum sunning': 'Don't do it as long as I did'

Perry ends up beating him to death after Trevor makes a remark about Rebecca. The brothers bring back the corpse to Abbott Ranch, where Royal takes charge, choosing to protect his sons by disposing of the body. The Tillerson sons show up at the ranch soon after and Royal decides to throw the body into the void as he runs out of options. Autumn witnesses the act and she pushes Royal into the void after promising to keep it a secret.

What did Royal see inside the void?

Royal Abbott makes it out alive at the beginning of Episode 2, and is confronted by Autumn towards the end. She opens up to him, revealing that the void's presence was the sole reason for her arrival at the ranch. She also reveals what the secrets about their respective childhoods have to do with the void. She goes on to ask him about his experience inside it. Royal shares it with her and it's shown that Royal saw something that looked like a mining base after falling inside the void. He also sees military personnel, police, and the town residents inside it.

He's approached by Cecilia, who tells him that he has been dead for 2 years and that the ranch no longer belongs to them. She also asks him to run, but he's shot by Luke Tillerson before he does so. Royal dives into the void immediately and that's how he ended up back on the ranch at the beginning of Episode 2.

The first two episodes of 'Outer Range' are available for streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video
