Spoilers for 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' Season 4 Episode 1

Fans of Midge Maisel rejoice! The edgy comedian is back on your screens in all sass and class. Season 4 of 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' premiered on Amazon Prime Video today and takes off right after Midge and Susie are left behind on the tarmac, as the Shy Baldwin tour jets away to Prague. After being suggested by Reggie (Shy's manager) to riff on the stories about Shy and his exciting lifestyle as a musician, Midge does so but pushes it a little further and touches upon Shy's sexuality. Though it wasn't direct, Shy, afraid of being outed and of the largely homophobic society, asks Reggie to fire her.

Episode 1 of 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' Season 4 starts with a word that could more or less be the mood for the entire season. "Revenge," a determined Midge says, talking to the crowd on how one tends to ignore imminent danger while being consumed by happiness. Following the glimpse of the set, we're taken back to the night on which Midge and Susie were given the boot. An upset Midge has a breakdown, getting into a minor brawl with Susie after throwing the clothes she has on in a fit of rage. Susie manages to kick some sense into Midge and the two of them end up crashing at The Gaslight, as neither are in the mood to go back home.

The following morning Midge finds out that she has been replaced with Jack Ballard and that it has been mentioned in the news. Given that she used her tour and Christmas special contract as collateral to buy her old apartment back, Midge asks Susie for her money back so that she can repay a part of the debt that she owes Moishe. Susie, fumbles but agrees to give Midge her touring money back later in the day. Under the pretext of going for a walk, Susie makes a call to Tess, asking whether the insurance check can be collected. Tess and Susie head to the insurance company's office where they find out that the check will be handed over only after investigation-related loose ends are tied.

Susie asks Joel, whose club is a huge crowd-puller, for a loan but storms out when Joel tries to get into the details. Joel's club is also bringing unwanted attention to the neighborhood and he's asked to tone it down as the gambling dens could be affected by it. He lets the den owners shake him down, bribing them as he refuses to shut down or change the way he handles his club.

Midge shows up at a family outing at Coney Island unannounced, and over a ride on a Ferris wheel, discloses that she has been fired. Now aware of Susie's motives, Joel loans her the money but not before he grills Susie on how she lost it. Susie hands over the check to Midge, who is determined to change the business. Tired of being an opening act who has to pander, Midge tasks Susie with finding her gigs where she can be herself.

Episode 1 of 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' ends where it begins, back at The Gaslight, where Midge ends her set by declaring that she won't bow to any of the demands that the business or its representatives make.

Season 4 of 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
