Actress Alyssa Milano was slammed on Twitter on Thursday, April 2, after she issued an appeal, asking Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders' followers to put their differences aside and rally behind former Vice President and 2020 frontrunner Joe Biden. Milano, in her appeal, also dissed at "Bernie bros," saying that it would be difficult for Sanders to unify the party, calling his supporters "toxic."

The actress' appeal, however, did not go well with loyal Bernie supporters who swarmed on her Twitter, accusing her of ignoring sexual assault allegations against Biden.

Milano, in her Twitter message, said that although she continues to support many of Sanders' ideas and policies, it was now time to support Biden for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. "He has always fought for what is right and just. I know this. I love this about him," Milano said of Sanders. However, she added that now was the time for Democrats to get behind Biden for the 2020 elections.

She also directly addressed Sanders' followers, writing: "Biden is right for this heartbreaking moment in time. That’s my opinion. You’re entitled to unfollow and wish me away. But, alas, I’m not going anywhere…and I hope you don’t either. We need your fight. We need your anger. We need your passion. We need love. I’m not your enemy."

Shortly after her tweet, the activist, however, was inundated with criticism, accusing her of ignoring a former Biden staffer Tare Reade's allegation of sexual assault against the former vice president. Reade has claimed that Biden sexually assaulted her in 1993 when he was the Delaware senator. She has alleged that Biden touched her repeatedly without consent and forcibly penetrated her with his fingers once. The allegations have been denied by Biden.

Multiple Sanders' supporters also pointed out the actress' hypocrisy — a Time's Up activist — who at one point had tweeted: "I believe women," referring to victims of sexual assault. Milano, however, doubled down on her position as she called for Sanders to drop out of the Democratic race.

"Bernie supporters, a thread for you. I will continue to do what’s right for the people in this country no matter how you attack me. I’m tough. I’ve had 4 years of practice from MAGAs. I know all the tricks and you can’t silence me. I supported Bernie in 2016," she wrote in a thread. "However, at this moment, I, along with what seems like a vast majority of the American people, and 90% of the other dem candidates, feel that Biden is going to be the steady leadership that we need. He has what it takes to heal the soul of the nation and bridge the divide."

"I am not your enemy. We are all fighting for the most vulnerable among us. I acknowledge that Sen. Sanders is an amazing public servent and we would be lucky to have him continue in any for of political office. I don’t believe he can unite the country because his base is toxic," the actress said.

"Having said that, people are dying. I don’t care if they are Trump supporters, Bernie supporters, Biden supporters or a-political. My heart aches for ALL who are struggling right now. Loss of life of this magnitude is unprecedented. Globally, millions of people are going to die," she added.
