Will there be a third season of 'Altered Carbon'? We don't know. Such was the ending that Netflix can choose to quit while they're ahead or maybe come up with a storyline that's as immensely good as Season 2. The Anthony Mackie-starrer vaulted the bar set by its predecessor and is definitely more explosive, action-packed and boasts of an intriguing plotline. Fans will surely hope for a third installment, but only time will tell if there will be another season of Takeshi Kovacs kicking butt.

While there's isn't much out there about Season 3, here's a quick rundown of all that we can look at:

Release date

Season 1 hit Netflix on February 2 while the second released February 27. If there is a third season, expect it to be in February, although it is still unclear whether it comes out in 2021 or maybe much later. After all, there was a good two-year gap between the first two seasons.

Plot

This is as spoiler-free as we can keep it

The elder and Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry) were the main talking points of Season 2. Anthony Mackie as Takeshi Kovacs and Chris Conner as the AI, Poe are in search of the legendary Envoy leader and while it is shown Quell is alive, it was revealed her stack was infected by the Elder. The ultimate aim is to rid the dystopian world from the threat and while it might seem a simple plotline, it's entirely what Season 2 hinges on.

Plus, there is a glitch in Poe's code and that may just lead him to compromise the mission. There are new characters in Torben Liebrecht, Lela Loren, Simone Missick, and Dina Shihabi along with some key characters of Season 1 in flashbacks.

Season 3 could chart an entirely new plotline considering Season 2 wraps up almost every storyline that was left unexplained in Season 1. As far as outlandish theories and speculations go, will Reileen Kawahara (Dichan Lachman) return? Well, she did die in Season 1. But again, this was a series that said immortality was an everyday affair.  So this could be a complete possibility.

Cast

Takeshi Kovacs has been part of different sleeves. Joel Kinnaman and Mackie were picked to play the part in Seasons 1 and 2 respectively, and while there will be a new actor to take over, there's no official statement or word on who would be cast. The same applies to the rest of the cast who've pretty much had their story arcs covered. Best guess? Chris Conner's Poe might be the only constant character we can think of.

Director/ Writer

Laeta Kalogridis may return to helm the series as a creator. Alison Schapker might return as Executive Producer.

Trailer

This one's a huge question mark, but keep watching this space for more information as we'll update the trailer section with details.
