'Altered Carbon' Season 2 Ending Explained: Can the Netflix series continue its story into Season 3?

The last episode of Season 2 does have an air of finality about it but while most of the plotlines from the start of the show seem to have been resolved, there's still potential for more to come

Spoiler alert for 'Altered Carbon' Season 2

'Altered Carbon' Season 2 is finally here with Anthony Mackie starring as Takeshi Kovacs and it's a really fun ride. In fact, it's so fun that we really hope the show goes on forever, something it can actually do since none of the roles actually need a particular character to play them.

That said, the last episode of Season 2 does have an air of finality about it. By the end of the season, we find a major role reversal between Tak and Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry) and considering we actually saw Kovacs die in a blaze of Angelfire, it does seem like his story is over.

With Falconer back in the world and ready to revitalize the Uprising, it would appear her story has also come to an end and the authoritarian Protectorate may soon be brought down. Even the AI Edgar Allen Poe (Chris Conner) resets to the way he used to be before Kovacs came into his life.

However, while most of the plotlines from the start of the show seem to have been resolved, there's still potential for more to come. The last scene of Season 2 shows Poe and Dig 301/ Annabel (Dina Shihabi) recreating a stack using a DHF backup that Poe had stored away before being rebooted.

Now, to be fair, they don't actually reveal that the DHF belongs to Kovacs but who else could it logically be? So yes, though it did appear as if the Last Envoy finally died, it seems he may have found a way to come back.

In all honesty, if Netflix were to choose to end the show after Season 2, it wouldn't be the worst way to go. But the way the season ended does leave room for more stories if the showrunners want to pursue them and we really hope they do because this series is far too good to just end after two seasons.

All episodes of 'Altered Carbon' Season 2 are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
