'Alex Rider' Ending Explained: By tying death of Alex's parents to shadowy Scorpia, we are set for a Season 2

Episode 7 had already tied up almost all the loose ends. Dr Greif was in custody, the clones all accounted for (or so they thought), and most importantly Alex Rider was going back home to the normalcy of school dances and Tom's movie selection.

But as we saw in the last minutes of Episode 7, Alex's clone was out and about and feeling pretty pissed. In Episode 8, we see the clone cleverly stalk the halls of Alex's school, actively provoking Tom and Ayisha, and delighting in creating havoc in Alex's life.

Alex is blissfully unaware though, still grappling with all that has happened to him. He still has no answers to who killed his uncle or why. Nothing recovered from Point Blanc is yielding any clues because Dr Greif isn't talking and he did a pretty good job of erasing almost all the evidence. He meets Kyra who comes to say goodbye after she has escaped her safe house on receiving the news that her parents are dead. But given how her character has shaped up, there is a strong possibility that she will return with important information about the deaths of her parents and also the deaths of Alex Rider's parents.

Yup, the big bombshell of the last episode is that Scorpia is the shadowy organization behind Dr Greif's Point Blanc's Project Gemini and the deaths of billionaires with heirs at Point Blanc too. Their assassin for hire, Yassen, is identified by Alex because of that chance meeting at Point Blanc. This helps Mrs Jones join the dots. They aren't hunting a new enemy but an old one that they thought they had finished off. Not only that, Scorpia was also responsible for Alex's parents' deaths.

Meanwhile, the clone is on a mission of vendetta since he had his 'family' aka Dr Greif and Eva was taken from him. He wants to kill Tom, Jack, Ayisha and anyone who means anything to Alex as revenge. So we finally get that scene where Alex and the clone Alex duke it out at the school's dance. Clone Alex has a very Terminator vibe, so that is fun and best is when Tom is able to identify the clone when the MI6 (finally) shows up to break up the fight. The agents don't know who is real till Tom comes and clobbers the clone, taking revenge for being tortured by him earlier.

But clone Alex is also too big a loose end and Yassen sniper shoots him from a rooftop. He briefly toys with the idea of killing the real Alex too -- but something stays his hand. That he has plans for Alex is evident, which confirms that he too will be back in Season 2.

At the end of the episode, Alex steps out with Tom and Jack for some pizza, while Blunt and Mrs Jones observe him. If they tell him who killed his parents', he will be drawn into their battle with Scorpia. So Mrs Jones begs Blunt to let him go. But with Kyra loose, gathering information, Alex will probably learn the truth even if they don't tell him. And since Yassen is so interested in him, he is already involved, whether Mrs Jones likes it or not. Season 2 is all set up with Yassen returning as the villain and Alex going after Scorpia to avenge his parents, and not to forget, his uncle's death.

'Alex Rider' premiered on the free-to-stream Amazon's IMDb TV on November 13.
