BOISE, IDAHO: It has been revealed that Lori Vallow's brother, Alex Cox, attempted to shoot their niece's estranged husband to claim his $200,000 life insurance payout. A bullet ripped through the driver's side door of Brandon Boudreaux's Tesla in Gilbert, Arizona, on October 2, 2019, while he was on his way home from the gym. Boudreaux was in divorce talks with Melani, his then estranged wife and the mother of his four children and Vallow's niece.

Ryan Pillar, a detective with Gilbert PD, claimed during Vallow's trial that Cox was behind the attempted murder. He allegedly wanted to kill Boudreaux so that Vallow could get a life insurance payout that her niece would have received. Cox reportedly died on the floor of the bathroom gasping for air in 2019. The cause of his death was determined to be natural causes.

How Alex Cox became chief suspect in Brandon Boudreaux's shooting

Pillar said they determined Cox was the chief suspect when they found the Jeep Wrangler he was driving was involved in a separate shooting. That July, Cox gunned down Vallow's then-husband Charles in Arizona. Cox was also allegedly involved in an attempted shooting of Tammy Daybell who was suffocated to death days later.

After Cox's car was seized by Arizona officers, the gun residue was found in the rear. Pillar said he discovered law enforcement in Idaho was also dealing with Vallow's missing children and Tammy Daybell's death at the time they were trying to track down Cox. "They were successful in contacting Alex, Chad and Lori but were unsuccessful in locating the children," Pillar said as per Daily Mail.

Vallow's case drew national attention when Vallow's children, JJ and Tylee went missing in 2019. Vallow is now on trial for the deaths of the two children, as well as that of her fifth husband Chad Daybell’s former wife, Tammy Daybell. In 2020, the bodies of her children were found buried on Chad’s property.

Vallow was arrested by authorities in February 2020 and Chad in June 2020. They were indicted in late May 2021 on multiple counts each of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and grand theft by deception, and first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of JJ, Tylee, and Tammy. In June 2021, officials also indicted Vallow in the July 2019 murder of Charles Vallow, her former husband.

Who is Melani Pawlowski?

Melani was previously married to Boudreaux, and the couple was reportedly close to Lori and Charles Vallow. They even lived with the Vallow family for a while. Boudreaux said Melani aspired to be like her aunt, according to AP News.

The couple divorced in 2019 after as many as ten years of marriage. Boudreaux had been living in his new rental home for just two days before he was shot at. Police later claimed the shooting attempt was part of Vallow's conspiracy so she could have his money through Melani.

'There it is...AGAIN MONEY'

Social media users reacted to Cox's news, with some saying Melani should also be accountable. Although the Internet suspects Melani may have been involved too, there has been no concrete proof regarding these allegations "and there it is...AGAIN MONEY MONEY MONEY...no doubt this is why demon Lori ENCOURAGED her niece Melani P. to get divorced but also to have Brandon killed by Alex Cox, for MORE MONEY in life insurance along with the entire amount of the business. I do believe Melani was involved," one user wrote, while another said, "Ok, so how did she get out of testifying all together? Melani seems to have wiggled her way out of a lot throughout the past 3 years… and without consequence. Why?"

"She narrowly escaped being arrested IMO. Police and FBI just couldn’t get the goods on her," one user said of Melani, while another wrote, "Answer this Gilbert PD. Did you check Melani's cell tower pings on the day of the attempted murder? If you would've picked up Cox prior to his own demise maybe this case would've been solved."
