'Agents of SHIELD' Season 7 is finally facing down the end, not just of the season but of the series as a whole. The two-part series finale will see the agents going up against Nathaniel Malick (Thomas E Sullivan) and the entire Chronicom war fleet but it looks like they may get some help in the battle. At the moment, it really does look like Shield has lost. In Episode 11 'Brand New Day', the Chronicoms launched a massive attack on Earth, destroying all Shield bases and wiping out most of the organization.

The synopsis for the upcoming finale teases that the team will "take the help of friends and teammates, past and present". And considering the time travel element of the final season, this could mean the return of any number of beloved characters.

Fans would undoubtedly like to see high-profile former allies like Ghost Rider / Robbie Reyes (Gabriel Luna) make an appearance but there are others as well who could show up. Antoine Triplett (B.J. Britt), Lincoln Campbell (Luke Mitchell), Mike Peterson / Deathlok (J. August Richards), and Bobbi Morse / Mockingbird (Adrianne Palicki) are all beloved former characters whom the fans would love to see again on the show.

Of course, the one we're really hoping to see is Brett Dalton's Grant Ward, who got a passing mention in Episode 11 'Brand New Day'. We don't know if he'll still be a bad guy after all the changes done to the timeline but it would be great to see the Season 1 cast reunited nonetheless.

After all, the show began with Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), Skye / Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet), and Ward so it makes sense that it should end with them. Whether this works out or not, is something we'll have to wait and see.

Here's the official synopsis for the two-part finale 'The End is at Hand' and 'What We’re Fighting For': "With their backs against the wall and Nathaniel and Sibyl edging ever closer to eliminating S.H.I.E.L.D. from the history books, the agents must rely on their strengths to outsmart and outlast the Chronicoms. This is their most important fight, and it will take the help of friends and teammates, past and present, to survive."

'Agents of SHIELD' will air its series finale on August 12 at 9 pm ET on ABC.
